“Yuck”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

When you walk into the Crowne Plaza Downtown you may be fooled into thinking it's a nice hotel as the lobby is well done and you're greeted by hot chocolate and friendly staff. However, when I arrived at the small and not so well appointed room I quickly discovered this hotel is the not so great. The toilet had brown stains which the learned is build up due to hard water. It was unwelcoming and just gross. On my second day I discovered my "clean" towels had someone else's (ahem) body hairs on them. My coworker told me he had to go through three "clean" towels before he found one that didn't smell like it had been wrapped in cigars.

Also, the heating unit was so loud at night I had to turn it off. This is certainly not a three star hotel and has me rethinking the Crowne Plaza brand.

Dear jahjah01,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We sincerely apologize for your negative experience. We strive to exceed all of our guests expectations and when we fail to do so, we fail at our primary mission.

White Plains county was working on a water main pipe recently and we did have some brown water running through our water pipes. This was only during the repair period and since those repairs, we have not had any brown water in our guestrooms.

Our Executive Housekeeper and her team immediately discard any towels that are not up to our guests and our own high standards of operation. I have asked for a stronger focus on this important standard and met with our laundry processor to assist in this process.

Our Heating System has been recently upgraded and the vendor is on property, helping us re-inspect every room for loud units.

Thank you again for taking the time to submit your comments as this allows us to better our services.

Best Regards,

Angel Tejeda

“Not what it used to be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I've been coming to the Crowne White Plains for four years now, and it really has gone down hill in that time. There has always been a street noise problem here, but in the past it was always a clean comfortable place to stay. Not any more. The rooms feel dirty, the a/c units are noisy, the Internet is slower than death, and there's no free coffee available! There used to be a carafe of coffee available in the morning for those of us with early starts to our day, now you have to pay for it from the cafe they put in after the lobby remodel. Oh, and I woke up to a room filled with diesel fumes at 530am. The only positive thing about this hotel is the breakfast buffet.

Dear mboette,

It is really important to us to continue to have you as a long time repeat customer and thank you for your business. I apologize for the inconveniences that you endured during your last visit.

We will undergo a product renovation which will give us better noise insulation, we have recently changed our internet service provider and have since seen a great improvement in the service. Our Housekeeping team thoroughly inspect every room before arrival to ensure that our high cleanliness standards are met.

Again, thank you for continuing to choose our Hotel when your travels bring you to White Plains. We are very committed to meeting and exceeding your expectations.

“OK stay, room for improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My second stay, the room had one of those old fashioned armoires and a fuzzy-picture tube TV, the 1980s called and wants the "Zenith" back (seriously it was a 20 year old Zenith TV), besides that it adequate. Water saving taken to an extreme, you flush the toilet three times.

“Reasonable property at average price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This was a one weeknight stay which totaled $175 including tax, parking, and internet. The lobby was pleasant enough, with hot chocolate available from a carafe near the check-in desk. There was a fashionably hip dining counter for breakfast as well, though we didn't take advantage of that. The room had a long corridor beside which was the bathroom, leading ultimately to the room itself. The light switch did nothing so I stumbled around in the dark before finding the bathroom light switch. The thermostat appeared to be unrelated to the HVAC system in the room, so the room remained moderately cool despite my bumping up the temperature. It was a mixed blessing as the HVAC system, when it did kick in, was very noisy.

The bed was comfortable, indoor/garage parking was convenient, and there are many nearby places to eat within several malls that are walking distance from the hotel. While I could hear some noise from the outside, it wasn't annoying, and the long corridor to the outside of the room protects the occupant from elevator and similar noise.

“Very nice hotel with GREAT customer and shuttle service!”

I absolutely LOVED and ENJOYED staying at the CP in White Plains! First let me explain my situation. My sister and I were up there for my uncles funeral, so having this exceptional customer service and a comfy room really made everything so much better. I will start with the hotel rooms- nice, clean, and comfortable, beds comfy (not my own of course so I never sleep perfect when staying in a hotel) and room temp was comfy as well. Breakfast was yummy and I enjoyed the coffee. That's the easy part. Now lets talk about customer service. AMAZING.

I will first start with Emily, concierge--she was absolutely amazing. Extremely helpful with all that she did for my family. She had been in contact with my mom who was sending us up here for my uncles funeral. Among all the help she gave us, one thing in particualr I will share is that she did an wonderful job with contacting a taxi company to take us to Riverside, CT and making sure that they were there in the morning to get us for the funeral. Andrew also was very helpful in that he was there the morning of to reassure us that if the taxi was not there on time that he would call to make sure they were on their way. Thankfully the taxi was there earlier than expected! But thank you so much to both of them and also to Emily for just being friendly and personable!

Shuttle service--here is the shout out to Ishma! (I hope I spelled his name right!) I cannot thank him enough for his service around the town. In particular, I was trying to find where my uncle use to live (he was within the 5 mile radius for the shuttle). After looking for it a few times and having no luck, I decided that it was just time to get back to the hotel. He was so kind enough and persistent on making sure that we found my uncle's apartment just so I could take a photo of where he use to live. We did find it! :) This meant a lot to me and my family because it will probably be a very long time before we get back up to this area. Thank you Ishmal!

Oh and also Robert, at the front desk, he was very helpful as well. To make a long story short, my husband who was back in FL, got his wallet stolen. This was a problem because the credit card that I had on file had to be cancelled. Robert was so helpful with faxing paperwork so that we could get another one on file before we left the following day. He did more than enough for us and I really appreciated that as well! Thank you!!!

All in all my experience was wonderful here! GREAT SERVICE AND GREAT STAFF!!
THANK YOU to all that were there in the 2 days that we stayed!!
