We went to a Communion party at the Hotel Thayer. I was so looking forward to it and I came out saying never again. The hotel itself is OK, just needs some work inside. The views are fantastic. The parking is horrendous ( you need to park across the street, if you find a space) and walk a steep incline. it's ok for some people, but I can see other individuals who may need help walking having a difficult time. The party was a 4 hour affair. The first 1 hour is the cocktail hour. First they had cheese and crackers, shrimp cocktail, fruit platter and a vegetable platter. The set up was bad. The dip for the vegetable platter was not even near the vegetable platter, so no one knew what it was for. Then, the staff walked around with about 5 different hot appetizers. they tasted like a supermarket brand appetizer. Then, after 1 1/2 ( with no hot food after 1 hour), we sat down to stale rolls on the table. We waited another 30 minutes for a salad. The salad was good. Next we waited another 30 minutes for our entree, either filet mignon or salmon. We had the filet mignon and it was covered with onion gravy! I never saw filet mignon in onion gravy. It was good, but not want I expected. Other individuals at our table had salmon, which after a few bites, was not touched ( I guess it didn't taste good). The kids had chicken fingers and french fries ( I tried the french fries and they were soggy, but the kids ate them anyhow). Considering the price for this place, I would expect higher quality food and better service (not waiting 30 minutes between courses). I would not recommend for a party, even though the views are outstanding.
