“The BEST Christmas Lunch - EVER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I cannot find the words to express the delight we all experienced on the occasion of our family Christmas Lunch in 2011. Every member of staff truly excelled on the day - in every respect. From the cheerful and genuine greeting on arrival, right through to the amazing array of great food... no one could have asked for more!

The table decorations were a credit to the initiative and dedication of all concerned; as was the cheerful and efficient table and bar service. In short EVERYTHING that everyone did to make the occasion very special was simply fantastic. All of us at the "Black" table were quite overwhelmed... and we want to say a big, big THANK YOU for a wonderful day.

And by the way - we would also like to compliment you on the change from a Table D'Hote menu to a Buffet. This was a brilliant move... and made the experience even more enjoyable. Please keep this arrangement in place for the future.

“Amazing Wedding Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We had our wedding at caves house yallingup in Nov 2011. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, It suited our vintage feel garden wedding perfectly.

The food was fabulous, all our guests commented on how wonderful the 'wedding food' was and such big serves. The staff were just amazing and really helped our special day run smoothly.

The bridal suite is lovely and big, with a huge balcony perfect bridal party photos.

“Luxurious & relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

After driving down from Perth City and having driven and toured all day through the Margaret River area, we tried our luck at the Caves House Hotel,(November 7th 2011). There weren't any rooms available in the original hotel so we booked into a room in the Seashells Lodge, part of the estate.

The suite of rooms was amazing. Modern ,fresh, clean and spacious. Our substantial verandah was nice and deep and we had privacy from walkers and people passing below. The outdoor furniture was lovely. The room had wonderful views of the park & trees below.

My only comment/complaint is about the shower. The floor of the shower is level with the bathroom floor and there is a gap between the door and the floor, which meant the bathroom floor flooded each time we used the shower.

We had our evening meal in the original hotel and while the surroundings were excellent, the diners looked as though they were part of a motorcylce gang convention as did the serving staff.

I think the staff need to smarten up and look like professional hotel staff. Baseball caps worn low over the face is not a good look. The male and female staff had multiple facial piercings & all, including the men and women were heavily tattooed.

The restaurant lets the hotel down, we were served pub food and charged fine dining prices.

Inspite of the restaurant, we had a very relaxing & enjoyable two day stay.

Room Tip: If staying in theSeashells Lodge, maybe a room on the top floor. Occasionally we could hear the peop...

“Do not stay here”

Do not stay here unless you have sensorineural deafness. Admittedly we booked a "wotif secret hotel" deal, but it was for a 4 star room, $170 for the night, set in 4.5 ha of tranquil landscaped gardens.... so you do not expect to be in a room directly above the bar full of rowdy drunks, with not a shred of insulation, and Gen Y staff that could not give a s@&$! The hotel is greedy and is taking advantage of people who expect some basic decency from the hospitality and tourist industry of Australia which is extremely overpriced compared to the rest of the world. I am booking all future holidays overseas!

Dear Tiredof

Our team was disappointed to read your review on Caves House as we take great pride in our hotel and the service we provide to guests. As an aside, earlier this month we received the Australian Hotels’ Association (AHA) award for ‘Best regional hotel’ in Western Australia. We take our commitment to our ‘responsible service of alcohol’ (RSA) requirements extremely seriously, and as such would query your comments that the crowd on the night of your stay were 'rowdy drunks'.
Because the Hotel is heritage listed, we are limited to the structural and internal changes we can make to the hotel, including insulation. With this in mind, we normally serve last drinks at 10:30pm and the hotel quietens by 11pm. We feel this is a fair compromise between hotel guests and regular patrons.
As you know, once a room is purchased through Wotif, the identity of the hotel is revealed. We envisage that a guest would, on knowing where they are booked, do some further research into the property they have been booked into and learn Caves House is a lively and friendly pub venue attracting people of all ages.
Unfortunately the nature of your booking as a 'Secret Hotel' did not meet your needs on this occasion and for this we apologise. We understood your concerns on check out and provided you with a gift on departure as a result of this and hope it went some way to compensate for your experience.

Kind regards,
Royce Cleaver, Front Office Manager
