We read about the Blue Sky Hotel in a local newspaper article - and the author described it perfectly - a very reasonable priced place to stay that was clean, with some very good food (try their pizza, of course - and also their fish tacos!). Despite what some people have written here about not being able to snorkel - well, they obviously didn't ask any of the locals (including the extremely nice owner, Mike) where to go snorkelling - it turns out that the Blue Sky Hotel is not even 100 yards from the Casa Cenote (it literally takes less than one minute to walk there from the hotel!) - and if you snorkel in the cenote, it's only 20 pesos (a real deal!) - or, you can also snorkel right in the ocean just opposite where the cenote is located, since the cenote goes under the road and exits right there at the ocean! Mike (the owner) personally took us out to snorkel in the ocean, showing us exactly where to enter and exactly where to find all the fish - and even sea turtles! It turns out that one sea turtle managed to wander into the cenote itself and was either lost - or intentionally looking to get away from his family and friends - but he looked just fine, surrounded by one of his favorite food - crabs! Yes, there were a lot of crabs in the cenote, as well as fish - even barracudas! The rooms at Blue Sky Hotel are very clean and elegant - and all have excellent views of the ocean, since the hotel sits right on the beach. And, it's only a 5 minute drive back to the main town of Tulum, where you can visit a number of excellent restaurants - but you can also find several places right on the road where the Blue Sky Hotel is located. Plus, the Blue Sky Hotel is ideally located just 15 minutes from Akumal Bay, where you can snorkel in the bay (the cost is FREE) and see lots of sea turtles, manta rays, and fish. Then, for another snorkelling delight, you can travel just a few minutes from Akumal Bay (literally just 3 minutes) and visit the Yal Ku Lagoon - the entry fee for the lagoon is 110 pesos (about $10 US), but it's totally worth the cost, as you'll find yourself snorkelling around in the most unusual lagoon - zillions of fish, and really interesting canyons and caverns in the lagoon area, where you can play hide and seek or just go exploring - totally fun - it's like being in a giant aquarium, but with lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore - what a great time we had! We had the best snorkelling experiences while staying at the Blue Sky Hotel - and it was all either right there at the hotel - or just 15 minutes away - and all either free or for a very low cost - especially compared to the typical tourist-trap places like Xel-Ha and Xplor, where they charge you a king's ransom for the same things you can see for almost nothing while staying at the Blue Sky Hotel. We'll be back, for sure - and a big thanks to Mike, for giving us such great advice and personally making sure we had a great time while staying at the Blue Sky Hotel!
