“Great location and beautiful views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My husband and I traveled to Italy in August 2011 and stayed in Anacapri for two nights. We called the hotel to pick us up when we were on the ferry as we were not sure which ferry we would be getting; the hotel staff were helpful and friendly and arranged for a pick-up. The driver was also very friendly. Our room was good and the bathroom was clean and spacious. The bed could have been more comfortable and the TV was very old but we loved the amazing views of the sea and the Marina bay from the second floor where we stayed and the wireless internet connection was also good on the second floor. We enjoyed watching the beautiful sunrise and walking to Anacapri, just 5 minutes walk and getting the chair lift upto Mount Solaro-which was not as frightening as it looked! The walk down from Mount Solaro was wonderful amongst the forested area, the serene air and wonderful views. The breakfast at the hotel was good by Italian hotel standards. The hotel is well located for quick access to local market and restaurants in Anacapri and the bus stop which has buses to the Blue Grotto, Capri and Marina. Overall a good stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view on the second floor to get the best views of the sunrise!

For me it was important to let my guests feel the wings of history accompagnied with the breathtaking wiew of the sea that this hotel offers.
The hotel staff always try to help you getting the best stay ever and the meals that we had here were very appreciated by my guests.

“Breathtaking views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Capri was the last leg of our 15 day Italy trip and it was truly worth it. The hotel is a 30 minute bus ride from the marina and offers breathtaking views from all the rooms (2nd floor ones are better). Ideal setting if you just want to relax and chill out on a holiday. The staff is very helpful, breakfast spread is good and they have a swimming pool and a cafe - where the cafe manager is more than happy to rustle up few tasty snacks. Apart from that the villa san michele is a 2 minute walk away and so is the bus stop for going to capri or the marina. The hotel also provides a complimentary pick up and drop to the marina (only after 8 am so try avoiding early morning ferries from capri).

Room Tip: Take the 2nd floor rooms that face the marina as they offer the full view of the sea and naples

“We REALLY wanted this hotel to be fabulous....BUT...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

We stayed at Hotel San Michele in mid-August, and it was the second stop on our trip. We chose this hotel because of the reviews on Trip Advisor, as well as the pictures we saw of the pool and location of the hotel. The pics made it look like you could see all of the island from the pool....and are very deceiving. Don't get me wrong, there are some fabulous views from certain spots in the Hotel, one of them being the balcony on the 2nd floor, however, the Hotel is much more run down and not as vibrant as the pictures make it out to be.

We were pretty pleased with our room when we walked in because it was VERY spacious, the bathroom was a good size and we had a small balcony that overlooked the pool, which was very nice. Our friends (whom we were travelling with and paid the exact same price we did for the hotel) were not as lucky with their room. It was extremely old (including their TV with no remote) and their air conditioning stopped working in the middle of the night. Once they saw our room, they immediately complained, and were informed that they were overbooked and our room was actually an 'upgrade.' Management did promise them another room for the next two nights and they ended up switching the following morning. Their next room was a bit updated, but extremely small, but had a fantastic view of the sea. One thing to note- our bed was as hard as a brick and our friends had a bed that was sunken in...so both extremes, and both were extremely uncomfortable. Every morning we would share stories as to how horrible we slept.

Another thing we found extremely disappointing was the pool. We had booked Anacapri as the 'relaxing' part of our trip and were planning on spending a lot of time at the pool. Well, let's just say that after spending a few hours in one of the uncomfortable chairs, we only returned once more for a brief visit. The lounge chairs were reserved (and I'm sure they weren't cheap) and the ones available reminded me of cheap, plastic picnic chairs. We have had more comfort at pools in the US (in Vegas?!) and were extremely disappointed that this was not up to par.

The only thing that made this hotel Average was its location. It was a short walk to AnaCapri, which we LOVED. There were lots of stores to shop at and some great restaurants. One morning, my husband and I also did the Mount Solaro chair lift which we really enjoyed (although it looks a bit sketchy, it's pretty outdated and I was afraid it wasn't safe, but I'm alive and writing this review!). I also got custom sandals made by a shoe cobbler on the street, which was another highlight of our visit. Oh, and the best part of our trip was by far our boat tour with Gianni's Boat tour, but I am going to write a separate review up for that, because it was EXCELLENT!

If it weren't for the location this hotel would get a 2/5. I don't plan on staying here again. However, I would stay across the street at the Caesar Augustus, Relais & Chateaux Hotel. We had dinner there one night and were even more disappointed that we had to return to Hotel San Michele.

“Room with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011 via mobile

We stayed in a sea view room. It was very spacious. The bed was comfortable, and there was a spacious sitting area. It was clean. The bathroom also was spacious with all amenities, though the shower head pressure was lacking so we opted for baths.

The location is just as you enter Anacapri and there are frequent car horns warning their turning the corner. It is a bit of a ghost of itself with an obvious past grandeur.

Notes on Capri: if the weather is bad, oh no for your stay. Go to Faro by bus from Anacapri to swim and skip the blue grotto unless you want the adventure of going after the boats stop running at 5pm.

Take the bus around. Its 1.6€ a ride and you can pay on the bus or buy txts ahead. Taxis to anacapri from marina are €25+
