“Wedding and service at Capri Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

We had our wedding in Capri. We stayed at Capri Palace alongside most of our guests for 10 days, so we got to know the property very well, including most of their staff.
The property is very beautiful and designed in a refined semi classical style full of art. The rooms are very tasteful, although not spacious, most of the rooms had their own small private garden with sun beds which was nice.

My main issues with the hotel was the service. We did extensive research of possible venues and thought Capri Palace to be the most beautiful of what we found online so we went ahead with the booking. An added plus was that an in-house wedding planner was included in the fee, which we thought would be extremely helpful to assist us and our guests. They advertise this included service several places. Unfortunately, we would soon regret having this service as Capri Palace's wedding planner service was not at all what we thought it would be. They were so slow in responding to almost all our mails (which they weren't prior to signing the contract). We could never get direct responses to our answers and constantly had to follow -up with numerous e-mails and long distance phone calls to get answers. When we asked for a list of vendors to choose from such as photographers and florists, we were told that they were the only ones to choose from! We felt forced into choosing their vendors which was strange and it didn't feel like we had the choice of doing what WE wanted to do, but what THEY wanted us to do, which makes me feel that this was all based on commissions.

It seemed like everybody was trying to make money via commissions driving the final price really high. Eg. when, for a part of one of the day-activities, we wanted a couple of boats, we later found out that the hotel had secured us a price almost double up compared to what anyone off the street could get the service for. As Americans we are used to leaving a tip. In this case we gave the boatman a 20% tip after the trip. No wonder he was so happy. Because our 20% tip was based on what turned out to be an inflated price for the boat, which earning him a 40% tip!!

If you are expecting wedding planning services on a professional international level or as one might be used to in the US, I must make future couples aware of NOT using Capri Palace in-house wedding planning services. Even though we had a lovely wedding anyways, I really wish someone could have warned me or I could have used the services of an outside wedding planner which we had considered but thought might not be necessary.
The service in general at Capri Palace was sometimes good and sometimes bad. It seemed to us that the service was very moody. Sometimes the service was excellent in the bar (the bar is almost always empty which is a bit strange as it's really beautiful) and other days absolutely lacking, where you had to search for service on your own.
I felt the same shaky service in the reception as well, which depending on whom was working that day, could be rude or extremely nice and helpful.

As I said before, the design and the rooms are beautiful. The area around the hotel is filled/packed though with day tourists during the day with big tourist busses. They write on the website that the area surrounding the hotel is a tranquil area in a lesser spoilt area of Capri, I wouldn't say that is exactly true!!! It is just as busy during the day as in Capri center. The area right around the hotel is horribly touristy also (not in a good way)!
I guess you could say that you could be very lucky with a good experience or exactly the opposite at his hotel. It can go either way. I just wanted to warn any future couples to be aware of this wishy-washy experience for future weddings at Capri Palace and NOT to use their in house planning services for weddings or events. I would definitely consider using a professional wedding planner separate from this hotel, if I had to get married at this hotel or their restaurants or other properties.

“You could do better!”

Very touristy location. It's also not on the water, so the views are limited. Rooms are average. The beach club that they just purchased allows access to a beach, but agin it is very touristy and overrated. Caesar Augustus is the best on Anacapri, but their pool isn't much better. One has to go to other swimming holes to have access to the sea. The restaurant is insanely expensive.

“Has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in, and we have stayed at many”

We decided to spend our first wedding anniversary at the Capri Palace, having celebrated our wedding their the previous year, so very nostalgic going back. The stay was fantastic. We were upgraded to a suite with our own private pool and lounge area. We could not fault a thing. The service, breakfast brilliant, but have to say the service which was what blew us away.

“Beautiful hotel but location could be better”

Travelled to Capri during my pregnancy and found this hotel to be quite lovely -- friendly staff, amazing art pieces displayed throughout the hotel, lovely breakfast, and great bar/lounge area. (Don't remember much about the room b/c it's been too long, but I think it was above average in cleanliness and decor) What I wasn't so thrilled with was the location -- 10-15 min taxi ride from downtown and no good view of the water. Our friends stayed at J.K Palace, which had a fantastic view. All in all, though, our stay was quite relaxing and fun.

“Overpriced and needing a revamp”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2009

I stayed at the Capri Palace for a couple of nights and was underwhelmed and unimpressed. Thankfully I was on a corporate visit, so the bill was paid by the company; I would have felt very disappointed if I had been paying: it was definitely not worth the money.

Where to begin? The hotel is located in AnaCapri. Beware: it is on the top of Capri island and the journey there is not only hazardous, but terrifying: taking in driving along cliff edges. If you are at all vertigious, do not go! In addtion, however, if you want to be a) near the sea, or b) near restaurants and nightlife, or c) near anything, do not stay there: it is literally in the middle of nowhere, so if you find yourself stuck for lunch one day (see below) you will have some surprise...

The room I stayed in (129) was very small, and the floor a hazard: I slipped on the tiles three times, and none of my shoes (even including trainers/sneakers) would grip it, nor would the slippers that the hotel provides. I was assured that my room had free WiFi, but could not get a signal for love or money. Upon enquiring whether there was ethernet, it was discovered that my (cheap: eg. *only* £250 a night) room lacked an ethernet socket. Great. No internet for me, then. The staff (most helpful, I should add) then assisted me with using the public computer in their foyer, but with internet speeds slower than old dial-up, I was forced to accept I would get no business done there.

The bathroom in my room was so small I could barely get out of the shower without stepping into the bidet, and, likewise, using the bidet meant my legs were pressed up against the toilet - and I'm not overweight. The room was just very badly designed. Very. Badly. Not what I'd call a 5-star hotel. And not worth the money, definitely.

There was only one pool in the whole hotel - unheated, and dirty around the edges - which was only large enough for four people to do lane swimming and no jacuzzi. There was a spa on the premises - which had steam rooms and saunas - but unless you wanted to spend an additional £150, you couldn't use them.

The food at the hotel was delicious, but expensive: it cost me £49 for a lunch consisting of pasta, salad, sparkling water and a coffee. But then, that's what you expect at a 5 star hotel, right? Again, not worth it.

The only good thing I can say about this place, is that the service was excellent and the staff do a wonderful job. But unless you're rich and price is no bother to you, and you don't care about the quality of a place, I would not recommend it.

The views are nice though. But not worth £250-£2000 a night.
