We had our wedding in Capri. We stayed at Capri Palace alongside most of our guests for 10 days, so we got to know the property very well, including most of their staff.
The property is very beautiful and designed in a refined semi classical style full of art. The rooms are very tasteful, although not spacious, most of the rooms had their own small private garden with sun beds which was nice.
My main issues with the hotel was the service. We did extensive research of possible venues and thought Capri Palace to be the most beautiful of what we found online so we went ahead with the booking. An added plus was that an in-house wedding planner was included in the fee, which we thought would be extremely helpful to assist us and our guests. They advertise this included service several places. Unfortunately, we would soon regret having this service as Capri Palace's wedding planner service was not at all what we thought it would be. They were so slow in responding to almost all our mails (which they weren't prior to signing the contract). We could never get direct responses to our answers and constantly had to follow -up with numerous e-mails and long distance phone calls to get answers. When we asked for a list of vendors to choose from such as photographers and florists, we were told that they were the only ones to choose from! We felt forced into choosing their vendors which was strange and it didn't feel like we had the choice of doing what WE wanted to do, but what THEY wanted us to do, which makes me feel that this was all based on commissions.
It seemed like everybody was trying to make money via commissions driving the final price really high. Eg. when, for a part of one of the day-activities, we wanted a couple of boats, we later found out that the hotel had secured us a price almost double up compared to what anyone off the street could get the service for. As Americans we are used to leaving a tip. In this case we gave the boatman a 20% tip after the trip. No wonder he was so happy. Because our 20% tip was based on what turned out to be an inflated price for the boat, which earning him a 40% tip!!
If you are expecting wedding planning services on a professional international level or as one might be used to in the US, I must make future couples aware of NOT using Capri Palace in-house wedding planning services. Even though we had a lovely wedding anyways, I really wish someone could have warned me or I could have used the services of an outside wedding planner which we had considered but thought might not be necessary.
The service in general at Capri Palace was sometimes good and sometimes bad. It seemed to us that the service was very moody. Sometimes the service was excellent in the bar (the bar is almost always empty which is a bit strange as it's really beautiful) and other days absolutely lacking, where you had to search for service on your own.
I felt the same shaky service in the reception as well, which depending on whom was working that day, could be rude or extremely nice and helpful.
As I said before, the design and the rooms are beautiful. The area around the hotel is filled/packed though with day tourists during the day with big tourist busses. They write on the website that the area surrounding the hotel is a tranquil area in a lesser spoilt area of Capri, I wouldn't say that is exactly true!!! It is just as busy during the day as in Capri center. The area right around the hotel is horribly touristy also (not in a good way)!
I guess you could say that you could be very lucky with a good experience or exactly the opposite at his hotel. It can go either way. I just wanted to warn any future couples to be aware of this wishy-washy experience for future weddings at Capri Palace and NOT to use their in house planning services for weddings or events. I would definitely consider using a professional wedding planner separate from this hotel, if I had to get married at this hotel or their restaurants or other properties.
