“Explore the Seneca Lake wine region and be sure to experience the Sunset on Seneca !!”
The second leg of our first Finger Lake long - weekend took us to Seneca Lake, and are we glad - - we were able to experience this wonderful B&B, owned and operated by Frank and Donna. Located on the southeast section of the lake just across from Watkins Glen, Donna and Frank were extremely hospitable hosts, with recommendations for dinner, exploring the area, and the opportunity to JUST RELAX!!
The property is a mere 3 guest rooms, so you feel like you are visiting friends. We chose the Green Room (apparently a popular choice for its waterfall shower). The room has climate control, a Select Comfort mattress, and all the amenities you'll need, including quiet comfort. In the common area (library), there is a computer so you can peruse your email. Restaurant menus of local establishments are found in a binder.
Donna and Frank were always there to help you maximize the benefits of your stay, but recognize that they are there if YOU need it, but not to impose. The breakfast was custom ordered and served with graciousness, and their restaurant suggestion (Suzanne's) was a nice treat! If you are interested, they will explain the nearby salt mine operations, the history of the house, and their life experiences -- - quite interesting on all accounts.
PLEASE be sure to experience the namesake of this location - - - -THE SUNSET -------both evenings, we enjoyed the lakeside seating and watched the sun disappear --- you can enhance your experience with your own adult beverage ---- - it is so peaceful!
While in the vicinity, be sure to experience Watkins Glen - - -the natural beauty of the falls and park, as well as the village business district. (TIP - - Go to the state park early to avoid the tour bus and related crowds and be sure to carry your cameras!.) The business district is an historical throwback to how business was conducted before the development of malls and their ubiquitous cookie-cutter tenants.
Try the Red Next Winery and Cafe - - - food and wine quality excellent --- in a very bucolic setting with view of the lake.
The area has a nascent farmstead cheese operation - - -it's just a short drive to Lively Goat farmstead, where you can meet the cheesemaker and the goat herd, sample the products and buy at the farm. (Their cheese quality is recognized and carried in select Wegmann's, so you know it's good!)
Just a short drive away is the Corning Glass Musuem, which is well worth the trip to view the glass exhibits and to experience the live demonstrations.....
If you miss Sunset on Seneca, you're missing a fun experience!!
