“Perfect position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

A wonderful old fashioned (which is a compliment) hotel. We had a beautiful room on the top floor overlooking the square. The stairs wouldnt be great for the less mobile or young childen but for everyone else it is very good for the price - not in the same class as the Relais where we stayed previously but a lot less expensive.

Room Tip: Worth paying to overlook the square.

“Unique boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

Comfortable, beautiful rooms, fantastic location and service - we stayed in one of the less expensive rooms in the hotel, la chambre des ecrivains, and it was very comfortable, pretty quiet, and clean, with excellent bathrom facilities.

The location is fantastic, being in the medieval square, much of it still in original condition, including carved wooden gargoyles. It's also a great place from which to explore the Cathar castles and do some walking, both of which we enjoyed.

The only downside is that the WiFi doesn't work, but the rest was great, so it didn't matter.

“Superb hotel and location”

Since we first discover La Maison des Consuls we have stayed here each spring. It's a wonderful, antiquated and mysterious building ideally situated in the centre of the town as part of the Couverts. Rooms spotless clean, beautifully furnished and with excellent views over the square. Love the traditional French breakfasts. Altogether a great experience each time we have stayed.

“Feeling like in the medevil fairy tale - trully recomended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2009

We were on the pleasures trip around South West France and North East of Spain and though to try something unusual - there was an advise in some guides that Mirepoix is the "hidden Gem of this part of France" - it is truly so!!! And one has to try the hotel Maison de Consuls - just unforgettable experience.

The hotel located inside of the mideivel town (behind the walls) right on the center of the town (opposite the town hall and the cathedral) at the place of nice semi wooden houses of various colours and design, as you usually see on the postcards or at the holidays brochures for North of France!!!. The hotel is small and has only half dozen rooms (no lifts though - could be a challenge for the luggage lovers), yet of each has its own caracter and the name. We were staying a night at Damme Lousie room with overlooking the cathedral and the market place - great point to have some late night snack - very romantic and charming atmosphere at the rather big room with canopy bed in dark mahogany colors. There was a fire place at the room - yet not usable.

The rest of the rooms as it should be for the 3 stars at France - big bath, TV, etc.

Extra points should be given to the exterior of the hotel - it is located in mid 16 century house decorated with a bunch of wooden heads and gargolyes - almost each with a story, took us more than hour to admire them all (hint - there are some under the street as well).

Overall the hotel is ideal place to have a weekend brake or as a base point to explore the Cathar Region and castles. Very relaxing, yet all you need place. Recommended

“very pretty hotel”

A very pretty and ancient building in a very pretty and ancient town. We stayed in the Astronome suite at about 145 euroes per night. Nice room, interesting roof top views, slightly quiter than looking onto the square which sounds good but can be noisy until late at night (12.30am at least) now and again. Quirky and idiosyncratic; not a state of the art bathroom; but that should not put you off the privilige of staying in a medieval building in an equally ancient town.
