Having just realized now I never reviewed the safari hotels we stayed at on the trip to Tanzania last year, I will do so now. Our first night of the safari, we stayed at Lake Manyara Hotel for one night. This was pre-booked for us by our tour (Good Earth Tours). We had gone on the "Standard" safari rooms instead of the camping option since some of the friends we were going with don't enjoy camping. Actually, one of our friends wanted us to choose the "Luxury" option, but wow, we were all blown away by this place (which makes us wonder what "Luxury" is like??). The hotel and grounds are beautiful and the gardens and lawn are obviously manicured and nicely maintained. I quite like the design and feel of the whole hotel. Our room was big and luxurious by my standards with a beautiful view. There was some freakish cold weather the day we visited so it was too cold to use the very nice pool unfortunately. The outdoor bar was a nice place to relax and enjoy the view instead. Dinner was between average and good, depending on who among my friends you ask. Dinner service was a bit more iffy, but we think it's because the server didn't understand English very well. Breakfast was a buffet with a huge amount of choice so there was something in there everyone liked. Service overall was very helpful during our stay and I have no complaints. You could even say overly helpful since were we jokingly chastised for wanting to carry our own bags down at check-out.
I really, really enjoyed staying here, but felt like this was a sort of experience for me rather than a usual place that I would stay at (except for work or something else along those lines). Next time, I would try a camping safari since that is more my style. However, I would definitely stay here again if a large fortune comes my way and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is looking for a bit of luxury in the wild.
