“Service was great, however condition was poor.”

Everyone at this hotel was nice and genuine. They wanted to make your stay nice. Free Breakfast was nice and good food. 42 inch TV was nice. However Condition of the room we stayed in was Poor at best. Wall paper was peeling from the walls at every seam. Many stains on the wall paper, such as had water leakage.Bathroom was wall papered over tile, with wall paper ripping off. Bath tub was dirty. No bathroom fan. Shower had no water pressure.

“Nice Clean Friendly and Cheap!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I stay at this hotel every time I head up North with my partner. It is close the 1000 islands area and Clayton. Two of our favorite places in NY. The hotel is a great price and located in the center of the old watertown. Which is very nice. There is a cute little bar that you can walk to named the Paddock which is located in the countries first indoor mall. The brunch in the morning is very nice as well. The staff is always friendly and the rooms are clean. The last time we were there they were in the middle of a renovation so I am looking forward to going back up there in the spring to see what they have done with the place.

“Adequate accommodations; great staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights and experienced an adequate stay. We had a party to attend on Sunday and didn't want to have to drive to another newer hotel. The hotel is centrally located in Watertown - close to the State Office Building, banks, museum and library. The hotel (at least room 205) is in need of some maintenance and repair. The room was fairly clean, but the windows were horribly insulated, the leisure chair uncomfortable, and the bath in very poor shape.
It was a cold weekend and when we awoke on Sunday and the windows were coated on the inside with about an inch of ice. When we returned to our room after it had been made up, the water was dripping off the window sill onto our luggage on the floor. It should have been wiped by the housekeeping staff.
The bathroom was atrocious. The old aqua tile had been wallpapered over, but the towel bar still had vestiges of the tile. The makeshift vanity was unfinished on a part and the sink was not securely attached. There was no room for any toiletries. I had to search for soap which was out on the luggage shelf. There were stain above the tub and the shower control was missing a cover. The toilet was of the kind that you would fine in a commercial restroom in a rest stop or restaurant. Not counting the tub it was about 4x4. No grab bars near the tub. I balanced on the sink which was how I discovered it moved.
The bed was comfortable with multiple pillows. There were 3 lamps and just an entrance overhead light. It could have used another ceiling light since the individual lamps didn't put out much light. The walls, however, were paper thin and we did have a very noisy couple who were enjoying themselves right next to us. It did hamper our ability to get a very restful night's sleep.
The clothes rack was a bar with a shelf and hangers. Something had been there before because the anchor holes were still visible. The room had a very dated fridge and microwave, but served their purpose. WiFi worked well and was free. There was a 42" LG flat screen TV and DVD player and free library of DVDs were a plus. However, the cable access did not include HD channels.

Breakfast was ok. The buffet on the morning we ate included cereal, 2 kinds of juice, coffee, bagels, minimuffins ( a bit dry), and some danish. Eggs, sausage and hash browns of a sort were hot. There was a waffle maker and oranges and bananas. For dinner The Savory has a menu of Italian entreés. A bit pricey, but very tasty.
The best part of the experience was the friendliness and incredible service of the staff. We were greeted by a very friendly desk manager. The next day we requested a rollaway bed for a friend who did not want to drive back to her home after the party. The manager did not hesitate to fulfill our request. Upon our departure our car battery was dead and a maintenance person had cables to jump it. We couldn't have asked for more friendly or a nicer group of people. They were super.

“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I stayed here for an overnight getaway 3-Jan-12. I checked in and was pleased with the cleanliness of the room. The bed was comfortable the room had a mini-fridge, microwave and 42" LCD TV. I realized later that I went to the wrong room, however, my key had worked. When I informed the front desk of this Angela put both rooms out of service so maintenance could look at them and upgraded me to a 1-bdrm suite, My only complaint was that it smelled a bit stale, but it was huge, had whirlpool jets in the tub and a canopy bed. Eventually I didn't notice the smell and I had a great sleep.

The breakfast buffet was typical: breads, waffle maker, bacon, sausage, eggs, homefries, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, yogurt, granola bars. It's a nice value add. I was also given a goodie bag on check-in with a bottle of water, Doritos and a Kit Kat.

I would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend this to a friend.

“We had a nice overnight stay -- superior onsite restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed here on the first night of a short three-day drive through upstate NY. Had a little bit of trouble finding it (my fault), but once we did we were pleased with the sort of stately feel of the place. It's an older place, well-maintained. Room was great, although the bathroom were a bit tight. Bed was comfy, as were the pillows.Great cable, wireless worked well, staff was friendly, and they even had a free dvd library to select from. The free breakfast was above par, and the breakfast room was nice a spacious. The on-site restaurant, Savory, was a gem. The menu was skewed to Italian, and the meals was fresh, savory and the price reasonable. We'd come again.
