“Best kept secret!!”

Hotel Mont Choisy is the best value for money in Mauritius! You just can't beat the location, the sunsets are spectacular! Why on earth anyone would spend the money going to a 5 star hotel beats me, you really have it all at this small, happy resort! The food, ok, could do with a bit of jazzing up, but other than that, everything was great! The staff are wonderful especially Kersavan at reception, he couldn't do enough for me. The rooms are big and comfortable, and, like I have said, the position, well!! I will stay there again, and hope they don't change anything, it's perfect!

“AWESOME!”

If you want to experience Mauritius at its best, you will find that at Mont Choisy. This was our second trip to Mauritius (our first stay was at a 5 star hotel and just didn’t compare to our stay at Mont Choisy) and was incredibly memorable, the staff are amazing and VERY accommodating, the food is fantastic, the accommodation is small but comfortable/clean (you only shower and sleep there anyway).

The town of Grand Baie is only a 10 minute bus trip away and there are small shops at a 2 minute walk away from the hotel. There is a small beach which is fantastic for the kids to play on.

Awesome awesome awesome holiday indeed!

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2009

My mum, sister and i went to Coralia Mont Choisy for a weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful, esp Jennifer and Sunil.
The rooms were clean although a bit small. They were however sea facing which was a huge plus!
The food however could have been a bit better as it was very bland and did not cater much for vegetarians/Indians.
Breakfast was nice, although repetitive.
we would love to go back there though especially due to the fact that there is a private beach!

“Not bad for a budget 3* hotel”

The rooms are small but comfortable and the bathrooms quite neat. Towels are provided for both bathroom and beach. The entertainment is somewhat boring as everything is done in French and everybody do not understand French! I felt like a stow away eligibly at the hotel! The gardens is very peaceful and quiet and the sunsets indescribable!

Monday nights is a cocktail party off some sorts with management but it sucks because again, everything is in French! The buffet theme on Monday evenings, yes, you got it right, French! I must admit that the French and Italians are very welcome at this hotel. The staff however, is very friendly and helpful. Other nationalities are warmly greeted and treated but it seemed that the French received preference.

Breakfast can be quite boring as it is the same menu every morning with cereals, fresh fruit (not a big variety though!), cold buffet consisting of ham, salami and cheese. The hot buffet do not liven up your breakfast either. Normal bacon and eggs (either omelets, fired eggs, scrambled egg or boiled eggs), chicken sausages and then off course bread and croissants. Coffee and tea is not to bad. I suppose one can do with what is provided but you do get bored with the chicken sausages every morning. We changed our variety every morning and this worked fabulous for us.

Dinner is not something to write home about and surely some serious home cooking is something to look forward to upon leaving. Red meat is scares and is dishes up very stingy. The salads are really good and there is a big variety to be had.The Chinese evening is worth a skip though as I found it not very nice and not very Chinese either! Wednesday nights is lobster evening at the other restaurant on the premises but may be skipped. An Indian buffet is served in the main restaurant on Wednesday evenings to guests who do not wish to settle for lobster.Better lobster can be had just across the street at the private restaurant and at a much better price in my opinion but my wife differ from my idea. Lobster cost me Rs 2100 for two of us and I could have had the same across the road at Rs 1800!

Beware of the mini bar in your room although it might be very tempting. A bottle of water will chase Rs 60 out your purse. I found this out the Tuesday Morning after our arrival! You will be better off to buy your own coffee, tea and other drinks from the Super U in Grand Bay as a cup of coffee or tea will cost you Rs 80. A Phoenix beer will cost you average Rs 80 and a Coke another Rs 60. It is better to get your own stock as the phoenix beer is not bad at all. I did this and bought mine from Super U in Grand Baie. I managed to take my own KWV 5yr old from South Africa along and I was glad I did. A bottle will chase a tourist Rs 860 out of the pocket at Super U. Locally one can get it at ZAR 55 at the duty free shops at O.R. Tambo International. Keep this in mind if you should pass through South Africa en-route to Mauritius.

The taxis outside the hotel is a pest. They are not operated by the hotel but can be very adamant to drive one around and they tend to get aggressive if one refuse their services. The buses run at intervals of 5 to 10 minutes past the hotel early the morning right through till late afternoon in both directions (to Grand Baie and Port Louis) and is fairly cheap (Rs 18 a adult to Grand Baie and something like Rs 24 to Port Louis). One taxi driver quoted me RS 1400 to Port Louis! I told him to take a hike.

The beach is not to bad either but the swimming area is very rocky. Be careful of sharp objects in the water. I wore aqua booties and I was very grateful I did. These can be obtained from the supermarket diagonally situated from the hotel across the road or from Super U at a very reasonable price.Fisherman use the bay to fish and I found a fish hook buried in the sole of one of my aqua booties. Otherwise, a lot of sun can be had and just lazing around is in the order of the day at Mont Choicy hotel.
