My partner and I stayed in these villas, with parents of our friends staying in the villa next door. We were upgraded to a one-bedroom suite and were pleased to see that the villas were very clean and had a unique character. Initially, we were all feeling very postive about our four night stay. However, this all changed over the next few days - thanks to the erratic and intimidating behaviour of the owners.
I have previously worked in the tourism sector and fully appreciate the need to set ground rules. However, this place is out of control and has totally forgotten the concept of hospitality and providing guests with a service. They go so far as to even impose a 2000 rupee fine if birds should pooh on their balcony - even though the windows and balconies are unenclosed. They also baulk at providing even the most basic items - only a half empty roll of toilet paper was provided and they expected us to replace the six matches we borrowed to light the stove with! Most dissapointing were their offensive comments about others - no-one was spared including our friends, "tourists" and even the local Mauritian people.
Our group did accidentally ruin one of their towells when trying to iron on a table because no ironing board had been providing in either villa. We happily agreed to pay the cost of the towel (and did) but pointed out that if an iron was provided then an ironing board should also be made available. The owner did not agree and said that we were expected to iron our clothes on the bed!!
I would've been more understanding of the owners' concerns if we had actually caused the supposed problems. However, we were also abused because of things that other guests or people had done. I don't believe we were the only people to experience such treatment as we also observed and heard other upset guests. We had friends who were due to stay at this property once we had left who, upon hearing about our experience, cancelled their accomodation. When they gave their reason both owners became very abusive and both verbally and physically abusive.
Not only would I NOT recommend this hotel, but I will also be making a complaint to the Mauritian Tourism Office. I would urge other travellers who have had a similar experience to do so as well.
On a happier note, I would recommend staying at Residence C'est Ici, which is in north Mauritius. This accomodation was superb, with extremely friendly and helpful staff. The absolute beachfront location is also fabulous!!
