Hibiscus is a small hotel situated on the north coast of Mauritius. It is centrally located; although it does not have a beach of its own, the hotel is close to popular and safe beaches.
What we liked were; rooms quite spacious, large spa bath, very good dive centre (Orca Divers) based at the hotel, and the location …. Only 100 metres from Pereybere beach, lots of restaurants, nearest supermarket 1,5km, Grand Baie 2,5km. snorkeling, water-ski and glass-bottom trips available at Pereybere beach.
What we disliked; lots of ants, cockroaches in the bedrooms and even in dining area. We used 3 cans of insect spray in one week, in an effort to keep away the creepy crawlies. The pathways between rooms and other areas are very uneven, made out of rocks, difficult to walk bare-foot, especially at night, as they are not well lit. Swimming pool was old and small, no beach, although there is some access to the sea via an old wooden stairway. Gardens overgrown. Small central fishing pond which has been empty for over a year. Very small, stuffy gym with old equipment. Staff in dining area are slow to serve and respond.
Compared to other hotels in Mauritius, Hibiscus is a 2 star hotel, but if the owners clean it up and train the staff, it could once again become a popular 3 star hotel.
