“Pretty Damn Good!”

We recently stayed at the Akassia Swiss Resort from 17th - 31st Dec 2010.
Weather great (windy for most of the time though - could be time of the year), staff are fantastic, friendly, Hotel is clean, not over crowded, food is excellent for all inclusive and drinks are good also.
Only bad points, all-inclusive does not work in the Aqua Park - you have to pay for drinks there and also in the 'Disco' at night where many of the Animation Team shows are. They also allow smoking in the disco room which is not nice if you don't like smoke!
The 'Cobra Show' you have to pay extra for (8 Euros Adults and 6 for kids over 6), this is not like the rest of the shows at night which are free.
All inclusive in reception does not start until 10AM
The Hotel mainly attracts German, Italian and other European customers. This is OK but we only experienced 5 or 6 english families so bear that in mind!
Kids food can be limited, the kids corner serves Pizza only which is OK but when there for 2 weeks with fussy eaters, is a bit limited for them!
Positives - The Hotel is great, clean, spacious, staff are great especially with kids, beach is great, plenty of sunbeds and snokelling is superb!
I wouldn't personally go back but would definitely recommend for families with young children. The Aqua Park is great although a few pools/wave pools are a bit too cold - the slides are fab but the carrying of the rings and inflatables can be hard work with the constant wind blowing and can feel cold also.
Location is not the best as is several hours from anywhere but we knew this before we went so cannot complain.
Would strongly recommend the trip into the desert to see the Bedouin people by 4x4! This included a camel ride also! Brilliant value for money!
Animation Team were very good, most of them (and there are quite a few!) were very friendly and approachable as you would expect.
Breakfast mainly eggs/omlettes/scrambled with cheeses and meats with orange drink. Bread was lovely and fresh. Coffee also very good!
We sometime ate at the Beach Restaurant which had chips and pasta and fresh made pizzas with salads/bread etc. Generally very good.
Evening meals tended to have a theme which was nation based so OK if you like German or Italian or Egyptian Food but we found very little on 2 nights but again, we can't complain as the rest of the time it was great!
Our Rep was a Thomas Cook lady called Andrea who was helpful although we didn't see for several days but we did have some extreme weather! (Rained like hell!)
Waterslides attraction with our kids wore off after a couple of days and they mainly used the smaller kids heated pools with slides.]
We used 'Sofi' (the quad and camel ride chap from the beach) to book the Quad Bike ride into the desert which was very good but suspect you could barter a better price than perhaps we did.
We as a family of 4 had stomach upsets, youngest of 9 didn't at all, 15 yr old had a day with upsets as did my wife but I was upset for much longer but to be honest this is normal for me with all-inclusive - it almost comes as part of the package! Be aware of the Pharmacy at the Hotel as the chap massively over-charged us for cheap tablets for upset stomachs before our Rep sorted him out and got us a substantive refund!
We flew from Birmingham to Hurgada which is over 5 hours flight but the bus journey from Hurgada is easily 2-3 hours so be aware of this. If you can, do get a flight to Marsa Alam, you will easily save yourself 2 hours on your journey.

“EXCELLENT HOTEL AND RESORT FANTASTIC!”

We got back 1 week ago today. we had an enjoyable holiday the hotel and resort was amazing and very clean, with so many pools to choose from and being right on the beach was great! The beach was so nice you could either relax or go snorkling it was great to see so many beautiful fish, we even saw star fish. Our daughter also enjoyed collecting shells they where so big we just had to bring some home to show her freinds. you can also enjoy a camel ride across the sea front and enjoy the beautiful surroundings which again we just had to do and would recommend. The food and choice was plenty and very fresh and well prepared they even catered for kids with pasta dishes, pizza, and chips everynight which can be a godsend if you have fussy eaters with you. Again the choice at breakfast is great with cereals, toast, bread, yogurts, different croissants any type of egg, waffles and pancakes believe me the choice is great!. the entertainment is good as again it caters for kids they have a kids club and mini disco everyday and night in which again our daughter enjoyed and looked forward to. The rooms where very spacious and clean our room was right next to beach and there was a wave pool right outside our patio door we couldnt of asked for better. The aqua park was so big and spread out with so many slides and no queuing which we couldnt believe we had so much fun there as a family with plenty of slides for all ages you wouldnt get fed up. Also i would like to say our thomas cook rep alex was so nice and approachable he was always there everyday at same times in the reception. Alex also arranged for my daughter to have a birthday cake as whilst we was there she turned 7 she loved it and the waiters sang happy birthday to her in english and egyptian which she thought was great. The hotel staff cant do enough for you they are so friendly. Hope our review helps because our holiday was outstanding and we will be returning soon. The review was from vicky, ian,and our daughter katie from manchester.

“Great Resort for one week of sun beach and sea”

A very nice resort with a huge aqua parc for adults and children (every age). The resort is well maintened, good service, also good food for an all inclusive club. we have been there with our 3 children (4 - 9 years old). The reef in front of the hotel allows snorkling with the kids - big fun! Nice beach and never too crowded. for the advanced divers there is a large padi team with daily excursions. the resort has a nice and appealing layout - there are places to be active and places to relax - something for every mood. october is still hot - extended summer vacations at its best.

“Excellent resort site pics do not do it justice!”

Travelled with my friend and her 2 children (9 and 16) via thomas cook. The resort is beautiful and the staff are fantastic. The resort is laid out around a series of pools and the beach with the apartment blocks all centred around a pool with beautiful gardens At night it is lit up like a fairy garden. The bars are plentiful and have excellent staff who very quickly know your preferences. The food as with many of these all inclusive resorts can be a little samey but in fairness as a very picky eater I always found something nice to eat. However, having a 9 year old with us who was very shy of trying 'foreign' foods it did become difficult at dinner to find a substantial meal for her but it wasn't a major problem. The Aqua park was a great distraction for the kids who had a whale of a time there with plenty of slides and again pools to go at! The house reef if fabulous for the snorkelling but even if you stayed in the lagoon there were plenty of fish in and around to be looking at. The rooms are well appointed - they cannot be described as luxurious but clean and well serviced. The cleaning staff work non stop but having said that all staff do. The animation team work tirelessly to keep everyone occupied and are great fun but are happy to let you alone if you just want a peaceful time. The transfer from Hurghada was 2.5 hours in a very small mini bus and this was nnot good to say the least but if you get the opportunity to fly into Marsa Alam take it as it is only 20 mins away! The reort is literally in the middle of the desert and ther eis nothing around but it is a large enough resort to not worry about this. The only negative is that everything is priced in Euro and if you go on trips everyone else expects Egyptian pound. Also there is always someone trying to get you spend extra and when you have children with you who want to go on a camel ride and a snorkelling trip and quad biking and this and that etc etc it can become an expensive holiday as it is always around 30 euro for everything. I had a fantastic time at the resort and would definately go back which is a strong recommendation as I only went to this resort as it suited my fiends chidlrens needs and not having kids myself would not have considered the resort initially!! Generally a great holiday

“Not to be recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2010

Very bad management, different departments i.e reception, restaurant, animation team have no idea of the other personnel work or place and cant give u any directions or info.
Had a plumbing problem at my bathroom and it took them 48 hours to repair it after several complaints
Food has no taste or flavor u can rarely find something tasty,
Beach is huge but u can only swim in a very small rectangle of sea, so imagine if all the guests are in the sea in the same time!!
The hotel is huge with rare directions on the places, restaurant or facilities.
I really doubt its run by a Swiss chain!!!
