“great hotel”

just returned from a week at the Akassia (end Jan 2012) great hotel; very friendly, helpful, polite staff.
Good accomadation, very clean. Food excellent. Snorkelling off the jetty amazing, only had red flag twice during weeek, when the hotel provided free transport to nearby beech for snorkelling. Not all pools heated but there are so many! Adjacent aqua park very good. Only downside was the fact that not all facilities open (beach restaurant for example) not as much live entertainment every evening as advertised, most probably as hotel not full by any means as it was early in the season.
Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, tip - fly in to Marsa Alem airport, only half hour by taxi to hotel.

“to avoid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

we have been in Akassia Swiss Resort for the New 2012 Year and first week of January.
May be it sounds strange, but on my opinion, the best thing in this place is the meals, because the quality and menu been on the good level.
About the other characteristics I can tell just "disappointment". Nothing "Swiss" on this resort…
Room service: The daily room’s supply been not effected regularly, sometime even without a soap! The HOT water been just warm… Mini bar not been filled on the daily basis… Bad-smelling towels, mosquitoes and flies in the room and on the beach ...

Beach: Can you imagine the beach of SWISS RESORT with a smelly camel and horse on the sand in the center of beach and close to the turquoise sea, in the place when the kids use to play? I saw this in Akassia. About your security: I have never seen a beach staff or Baywatch in the pool or on the beach…. So, please be careful with swimming in the sea or in the pools.

Main Restaurant (outside terrace) : The waiter will come regularly to you just trying to sale some cocktail o wine (extra charge). If you need the waiter, probably you will be forced to run across for a waiter’s search.
Animation is funny but a pity, more like to initiative organization (but not to the professionals) .

Some single word about a sexual harassment… If you are a blonde, I recommend you to change the color of your hair or to avoid to go in Akassia, because some staff constantly will molest you.

Room Tip: the rooms in Resort with beach view

“Huge complex, great food, lovely staff”

Rooms were big and clean, food was amazing with a large and varied choice, fresh bread every morning, staff were friendly and would do anything for you. Snorkelling brilliant, pools were good just quite cold, the location is quite isolated so there's not much do apart from what is going on in the hotel, entertainment was brilliant but nightclub was small and rather naff! Overall a good time and good value for money, we booked everything seperately online and saved over £100.

“Oct/Nov 2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Good hotel, pleasant and friendly staff, good food, brilliant water park.

Plenty of swimming pools although late Oct early Nov some of the pools were a bit cold 9it wasn’t as warm as I expected although that of course is not the hotels fault.

Pesky, persistent flies – again not the hotel’s fault.

Nice food and drinks – although a bit strict re midnight shut down. And glasses too small (250ml so about half a pint).

The water par was great, the half pipe a near vertical drop wahey!! The big ring slide great for getting the entire family in (but not very little kids). The pool / playground great for the little ones.

Loved the massive brick dome in reception.

Yes we had to pay for the snake show but it was only 5 Euro and the kids loved it. Also paid for a camel ride on the beach.

Lots of colourful fish to see in the sea although only used the dug out section as red flag flying most of the time we were there. The hotel does run a free mini bus elsewhere for snorkelling I believe.

3 hour delay on flight Manchester to Hugharda (sp) thanks Thomas Cook and a 2½hr transfer to resort.

On return leg hotel provided a free packed lunch.

Some damaged tiles in the main heated outdoor pool which I was a bit surprised at.

When you arrive ask for one of the free maps, handy for the first few days.

Take Euros.

“Akassia Swiss Resort El Quesir”

Ok i have been on vacation before and used this site to get a view of what it was like but chose not to write a review but the comments that some 'tourists' have written about Akassia rather amuse me so here goes !!
1) - Visas - You HAVE to pay to get in to Hurghada, it is cheaper if you pay Egyption Pound (dependant on your exchange rate)
2) - Transfers - You have about a two and a half hour transfer from Hurghada so do the maths before you go, why write a review on how you had to sit on a coach for a long time ? - if you don't want a long transfer - simple - don't book it or see if you can fly in to the local airport !!
3) - Location - IT IS in the middle of no-where, all the reviews tell you it is IT IS in the middle of nowhere - so why book a holiday and then moan about it - you guys make me laugh !! On a seperate note you can book to go on excursions and if you wish to go into the local town it is cheaper to use the hotel's 'limousine service' than a taxi but as with everything it does cost
4) - Food - The dining areas are manned with staff that are wonderful and food that is well presented - Don't go there expecting to have a full english or a Sunday lunch, if you want that i suggest you book Benidorm or Blackpool !! They have themed nights, i went on this vacation with my wife and two children, one sixteen the other eight, and we had no problems with food and would solely depend on whether your children are prepared to try foods from other countries, In between main meals there were 'bars' that served toasties in the morning and chips and burger/hot dog in the afternoon. There was free ice cream between 15:00 and 18:00.
5) - Beach - Not too sure of Electric Fish ? I didn't see any but there is a small area that is roped off that you can go snorkelling around. When we were there we used this area as the Red Flags were up so you couldn't snorkel off the jetty, however the hotel offers a courtesy bus that runs twice a day to a local reef (free of charge). There were beds and parasols galour and never to far away from the bar
6) - Activities - They offer, at a cost, camel rides, horse rides, quad rides, there is a licensed PADI dive center that offer a try before you buy in the pool, numerous excursions...the list is endless and suppose you need to undertsand what you want from a holiday before you book it factoring in the location of where you are staying. I personally thought that the entertainment team was poor and the activities a bit mundane
7) - Pools - The water park is great for kids both young and old however there is a family ring that seats up to about seven people that was a struggle to carry to the top of the slide, however once up there it was great to come back down. There are enough pools to suit and serve everyone...if there wasn't a bed where you wanted it the staff would go and get you the beds and the parasol !
8) - Drinks - All inclusive was as in most resorts, local spirits as well as beer and local wine:- re, white and rose. They SELL Heineken and named spirits as well as Cocktails and a selection of fruit juices
9) - Packed Lunch - Is available on excursions and your day of departure but you have to request it 24 hours before.

Negatives -
There were a lot of flies when we visited, the resort were aware and they smoked the area every evening
There were broken tiles etc in some of the swimming areas which left sharp edges which required extra precaution
As you are a captive audience the prices are inflated in the shops that are on site, we gave the children the Mars Bars out of the MiniBar in the room that cost £0.85, in the shop it was £2.35 !! A ball was costing £8 !!
We had four in a room which made it very small as there were two main beds and two put up beds, we looked at getting a family room but they wanted to charge us and extra 15 euro per person per night so see if you can negoitiate a family room at the time of booking

Room Tip: All the rooms have great views but see if they can allocate you one that is close to the main pools...
