My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway at Juniper Hill, and we were both treated to a sumptuous experience.
Coming up the drive, I was immediately charmed by the classic Colonial style mansion that houses the bed & breakfast. Candles were in every window, illuminating the cold wintery landscape. Bruce greeted us at the door and led us to our room, giving a little tour on the way. Our room had a huge bed, so tall that that a stepstool was provided to climb in! Warm fluffy robes and slippers were provided, and the bathroom included a huge clawfoot tub, tile floors that could be heated, as well as a tile shower.
The room had a chaise lounge that was perfectly positioned in a nook between two windows, so you could sit and read in your robe with a nice cup of tea. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscotti were located in the hallway outside our room, and tasty homemade brownies were available downstairs all day (and more seemed to reappear almost as fast as we could devour them).
Breakfast in the morning was a culinary delight - braised apples one morning, and poached pears the next, followed by an amazing banana cannoli tart - sort of a deconstructed cannoli - and a breadbowl quiche one morning and strawberry pancakes the next. The tables were intimate tables for two by the window overlooking their garden and fountain, now covered in snow, with views of other gorgeous properties across the street. Their two friendly dogs curled up at our feet at breakfast.
All in all, a wonderful way to get some pampering in a home-away-from-home. I highly recommend Juniper Hill if you want to spend some peace and quiet in a beautiful serene setting.
