“Wonderful Getaway!”

My wife and I stayed at the Castle on the Hudson, Tarrytown, NY, for our 30th wedding anniversary, and it was a wonderful few days. The onsight restaurant served up delicious meals, with indoor and outdoor dining. The pool and pool-bar were clean and accomodating. The restaurants in the small town of Tarrytown were excellent as well, with two outstanding ones that we liked, a Greek restaurant and an Italian, both located at and near the main intersection in town. The rooms at the Castle were kept meticulously clean and orderly. The staff was overly accomodating without being intrusive. It was a great experience, on the high end of costs, but worth every penny. Hard to believe we were only 18 miles from Manhattan, of which you could see the skyline at night, and the trip via train was inexpensive and easy from Grand Central Station. A trip definitely worth taking.

“Castle!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

The Castle on the Hudson offerred excellent service and a big, beautiful, and clean room. The beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfast is delicous and not typical. The staff was very friendly and as soon as they saw you greeted you and asked if you needed anything. I loved the heat lamp in the bathroom! The only problem we encountered was the heater mad a dull and continous noise all night long. It actually kept us awake and that is the last thing you want when shelling out a pretty dollar for the night. This put a damper on our stay.

The location is great and very accesible to Sleepy Hollow. Unfortunately all the historic houses are closed January through March. So we were unable to visit them but still great attractions like the cemetary and beautiful views of the hudson river! i would highly reccomend the Mint Premium restaurant in Tarrytown for dinner. It was delicous!

“The Castle still has it's Charm and style!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

This is one of my favorite special places to stay .It is a real castle!! If you really want to score points with your spouse or partner , stay here for a get a way. My husband and I stayed here for one night after eating in the Equus restaurant, which is part of the castle. . The rooms are beautifully decorated in rich European style. The best of everything, crispy linens lush carpeting and drapery. Plants in the hallways and rooms, beautiful paintings on the walls. We stayed in a spacious junior suite, room #301, facing west and checked in just in time to enjoy the beautiful sunset overlooking the Hudson River. On December1, the management changed .The staff told us about the temporary closing in 2013 for an entire rennovation of the castle. There seems to be a smooth transition taking place from European to more of a Japanese influence. , but there will be many changes in the future when it becomes more of a resort. I have been to Japan several times and I'm very impressed with how much attention is assigned to perfection and service. I have no doubts that this new management will succeed. The property is on top of a mountain right over the TapanZee Bridge, and overlooks the Husdon Valley below. In the summer, there is a beautiful pool area and bar open, which is very private. The only negative part of my stay here, was that we were supposed to have a complimentary breakfast the following morning. At 10 am we arrived for breakfast and were coldly turned away by a staff member because they were finished serving! We were never informed about the hours, and especially on a weekend being so early . After spending almost $1000 on a special dinner and room for one night ( which was quite extravagant), we weren't even offered a cup of coffee! That is something that needs to be improved.

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor have a view of the hudson valley below. Also, rooms facing the west, have...

“Still lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

We were there about 10 years ago and thought it was exceptional. We had a room with 2 beds this time and thought it was very nice, but not exceptional. The hotel itself is still lovely, the restaurant there was still delicious, and the grounds and view are still absolutely beautiful. The front desk people were extremely helpful. One thing was that when we drove up, the guy who was the bellman/valet came up to the car and just looked at us- literally. Not "are you checking in or dining?" and barely spoke a word of English. Not a good first impression for what's supposed to be a 4 diamond experience.

“Dinner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

The quantity of food is so small a five course meal is all tiny appetizers and not worth the price. I don't know what there doing it is under new management. Will not go back.
