My husband and I stayed at the Ramada Inn Staten Island on Saturday, January 14th. We were staying overnight because we had an engagement party in Staten Island that evening that didn’t start until 7pm and we live about 2 hours away.
We arrived at the hotel around 1:45 and were told that our room wasn’t ready and that we couldn’t check in. I was a little put off by this as the hotel didn’t appear to be at full capacity so I didn’t understand why they couldn’t place us in a different room. They told us to go have lunch and then come back (we had already ate) so my husband and I decided to just drive around and explore the area. The hotel didn’t offer to hold our bags for us so I asked them if it would be possible to at least take my dress and his suit which needed to be hung up, which they did. They then offered to hold the rest of our bags for us, which was extremely convenient.
We came back to our room at 3:30 and checked into room 211 which was right off of the lobby and up the stairs. The room was nice and updated (flat screen TV, newer furniture) but FREEZING. We discovered the window was open and that the heater was not turned on. I am not sure if the previous occupant had opened it up to smoke (it was a nonsmoking room) or if housekeeping opened it to air the room out. We decided to try and nap before our party but because of the temperature of the room and the lack of blankets (there were only a sheet and a light, spring weather blanket) it was difficult. My husband played with the heater for almost 10 minutes trying to get it to work before he called the front desk. A man from the front desk came up immediately and fixed the heater quickly, which was appreciated.
After the party was over, we returned to our room around 11 and slept great as the bed was VERY comfortable and the room had finally heated up after a few hours. I awoke the next morning to sound of the person in the next room getting in the shower (the walls were extremely thin.) We went downstairs and had the continental breakfast. A free breakfast is a free breakfast, so I can’t make any complaints about this. It had the typical food-cereal, bagels, toast, juices, etc. When we went to check out, I waited at the front desk which was unattended for about 5 minutes before I was served. Not a big deal, but when it is prime checkout time (10am) on a Sunday morning, you would think the desk would be staffed.
All in all, you get what you pay for. I believe we paid $109 before taxes for the hotel and all things considering, it was a good value. I have been lucky enough to stay at nicer chains lately (Sheratons, Marriotts) so my standards may be a little high. The location was great though-right of the highway and close to a lot of shops and businesses. Despite some hiccups, I would probably stay here again as the price couldn’t be beat.
7 night stay in Ramada. Delighted with hotel and with service of hotel cleaning staff and Debra in particular. Might not be a 5 star but with free Wi-fi, breakfast and newspaper, decent sized rooms and receptionist who cannot do enough for you - I vote this a real winner! Get X10 bus straight into Midtown once you have had enough of Staten Island ferry. Metro card is only $49 for 7 days.
The Desk staff of (Debra's staff) are very professional. I even asked for a room change because my party size decreased. No promblem. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. "Loved" the "King Size Bed", slept great and the Decor in the rooms are sleek. I stayed for 5 nights between Christmas and New Years.
We found the staff helpful and professional. The hotel was very clean, the continental breakfast was good. The bedroom was not big but roomy enough for us although we were there only late at night to sleep. Housekeeping was excellent. Our room was facing the freeway and was a little bit noisy but nothing that bother us.We would stay here again.
