“BEDBUGS! BEWARE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We booked this hotel to stay during the Hamptons Film Festival on Saturday 10/15/11. We stayed in Room 220. A little after midnight we saw 3 bedbugs crawling on the comforter. We were horrified and called the office immediately. No answer, and when we went to the office it was closed: no night shift desk, no answering machine, no nothing. No one in management was available for a late-night emergency, with no instructions about what to do if there was one. We killed the bugs and left their carcasses wrapped in tissue with a note as evidence on the room desk. We put all our belongings in plastic bags, left a note with the key and departed immediately. I called the office at 8:30 the next morning and the person who handled the call was extremely unsympathetic. Apathetically saying, "yeeeeah, we've had inspectors here before but they haven't found anything. Are you sure what you saw was what you think you saw?" It's absolutely bedbugs. When I asked about my room-charge being refunded I was told that my note would be left for the manager who "would be in...I'm not sure, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday...?"

Room Tip: our room 220 had bedbugs!

“Spacious Rooms/Chic Decor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

This hotel sits a few miles away from the town of Southampton. Directly off of the highway sits the Atlantic. The hotel has a tennis court, pool and beach volley ball court - as well as a couple of tire swings. I can picture this hotel as a nice place to take the family in the summer. I visited Southampton in the fall and there were probably only 5 cars in the parking lot the Saturday evening I stayed here. The front desk staff were friendly. I was impressed with the size of the room. The room was huge. There was a massive jacuzzi which was separate from the bathroom. There was a huge open floor area between the bed, jacuzzi and desk - enough where a cot or two could be placed. There would be plenty of room and then some for a family of four to share this room, if absolutely necessary. I was pleased with the nightly rates. Nice place.

“So close, yet so far....”

They nearly got it right at this renovated 1960s-era roadside motel. The fluffy white beds, the modern blonde wood – it seemed like it would be perfect for two low-maintanence travelers.

The room was stuffy, so we tried to open the windows. Painted shut. Air conditioner made an extremely loud noise. Bed was old and saggy, pillows awkward, and there was no top sheet under the duvet. Though it was a brisk night outside, with the windows sealed shut and the air con thumping away, we were roasting under the comforter. Just an awful night's sleep.

The lighting is nice, it's vaguely stylish, though the furniture arrangement is bizarre, with the tiny television too far from the bed to see clearly. The shower made a loud screaming sound the entire time. The skylight above the bed (note- very bright in the morning) was cracked to pieces up there. And on top of this, though the simple snacks for breakfast are appreciated, the coffee was so thin it appeared to be tea.

Oh Atlantic, we wanted to like you. Really wished you would keep up on your maintenance and at least improve the beds and the coffee.

“Booked last minute and was pleased.”

I stayed here on Labor Day weekend with my wife and two daughters. We booked late and had trouble finding a place to stay. This place looked decent and had availability so we took a shot. It turned out to be pretty good. The location was convenient to everything we wanted to do, the room was big and pretty clean and the service was good. The pool is nice and the Internet access was good. We had two TVs in the suite but on one the cable was not working. Overall, is was better than I expected.

“Quiet, roomy and friendly”

Last year we stayed at The Bentley, The Atlantic's sister hotel. When we tried to get a room at the Bentley this year, we found the rates to be too high for us. So we ended up at the Atlantic, which was not a step down by any means.

The staff is friendly, the room we took had a comfortable queen bed and a twin-sized fold out couch that was perfect for our 4 year old. We had plenty of room for the portable crib for our toddler as well. Lots of comfy pillows were provided. The rooms are pretty much as photographed on the website, which is a nice surprise.

We had a pool-facing room, #115, that was very quiet and away from the street noise. The main road is very busy and you can often get caught in traffic trying to get somewhere. I hear the price is more for the pool-facing rooms but they didn't charge us extra for some reason (since we didn't request one?).

There is a fantastic looking pool area that we never had a chance to take advantage of. There is an area next to the pool that has sand and a volleyball net. There are 2 tennis courts that looked like a good time, but we didn't have time for those either.

Both the Bentley and the Atlantic are old hotels that have been renovated and re-renovated over their lifetimes. They do have a mild "old hotel" funk, but nothing terminal. There were a lot of dogs when we were there, so I'm guessing it's pet friendly.

We had no complaints at all, we would stay again.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for the beach parking pass if you are driving. And they might even lend you some bi...
