We are getting ready to press criminal charges against this man. DO NOT BOOK HERE. Like others we showed up to a locked house and he kept our money. THIS MAN IS A CROOK.

Similar experience - but we had sent full payment of over $1500 for two rooms for three nights!!! Turned up to be greeted by shocked tenant who explained that they had booked the whole house for summer. She was extremely helpful (totally above and beyond as it was nothing to do with her at all - and in fact must have made her feel uncomfortable having to face irate English family) and helped us get in touch with owner. We had a re-confirmation from box farm a couple of weeks earlier, after they had rented the house out, but apparently we had also been sent an email, the night before we arrived, explaining that we had been rebooked elsewhere. We were however on long road trip and had not looked at emails for days! After very stressful couple of hours turned out that we had been re booked into the wonderful 1708 House in Southampton but was a very unpleasant experience.

So we have the same problem. I am sure this has happened to many people. If you are a victim of this establishment please lets organize and get what I am sure is a decent amount of money in total back from these people.

My fiancé and I booked a long weekend to celebrate my birthday. I sent the owner a 50% deposit of $487 by check, which was the form of payment he required. Big mistake! As the date of our stay approached, I tried calling and emailing to confirm, but was unable to get in touch with anyone.

We arrived Friday night to find the house completely dark and abandoned. When the owner finally returned my calls, he informed me that they are OUT OF BUSINESS, and he had “forgot” to notify us. First he said there was a “problem with insurance” and then he claimed his uncle (who supposedly owned Box Farm) had died.

Bottom line, we were stuck in Southampton on a Friday night with no accommodations for the weekend. Not a good situation.

The “owner” Nate assured me I would get my deposit back immediately. Almost three weeks later, I still have not gotten my $487 back, nor have I heard anything further from him.

If you paid a deposit to stay here for Summer 2011, I hope you have better luck getting your money back than I have had.
