“Mediocre and overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

Stayed one Saturday night because my wife did not want to drive 1 1/2 hours home. Even though plenty of rooms available was charged rack rate with no AAA or other discounts. Did not press the issue with clerk but just wanted to get settled in. The room was in the rear of the building, smallish and looked out on a pretty ugly power station even though the town is really quaint with beautiful lake across the street.

As another reviewer mentioned, only two flimsy pillows were furnished. I called the desk to request two more, and a toothbrush since I had forgotten mine. The pillows arrived soon but, sorry, no toothbrushes are available. Wife wanted to iron but the iron was inoperative.

On the good side the location is excellent and free parking is available. Also a free breakfast is offered in the Sherwood. It was ok, again, nothing special but the staff was very friendly.

“Loved the town, disappointed in the Packwood.”

We were staying at the Packwood to attend a wedding and were given a choice of rooms to book. I asked if we could have the balcony room instead, because it was a birthday celebration for husband and myself as well, and I wanted it to be special. I was told none were available, but there was a "lake view" room in the wedding block. That was the first disappointment, the "view" was totally blocked by trees, the lake all but invisible. I mentioned this on check-out and was given an "oh, yeh that's room 211" No apology for the misrepresentation and no gesture to compensate in any way, even though the cost of the room was the same as all the other rooms----way overpriced.
Second disappointment, the room size and amenities were the same as many other less expensive hotels we have stayed at, nothing special. Though breakfast was included, you had to walk a block to the Sherwood to dine and it was exactly the same two days in a row on a weekend!! There were no attendants in the building day or night unless they were cleaning rooms, and no information outside of a book full of old pamphlets to look through to find your way around.
Yes, there is underground parking when space is available; wish we had known you had to check in at the Sherwood before you could go to your room in the Packwood; it would have saved some time and back and forth parking.
The wedding reception was great, the town was fun, the shops interesting and the lake very calming. The one good amenity , close to the lake; but don't look for a pool.

“Top Notch Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

On a tour of the Finger Lakes area, we stopped in Skaneateles - a very nice little village. We'd checked for Inns in the area, and this is one that looked interesting. They had a great winter special on ($99/night incl. breakfast buffet, and buy one, get one dinner entre at the Sherwood Inn), and with free underground parking, it was tough to beat.
The hotel is very modern, the rooms were extremely clean, and the staff (located at the Sherwood Inn a few doors down the street) were very friendly and thorough.
We've travelled extensively both on business and on vacation, and this was probably one of the best values we've ever had.
The rooms were great, and while Rte 20 is outside, we only heard the noise when we went out on the balcony overlooking the lake, and it was certainly not an issue.
If you're looking for a great stay in the Finger Lakes, I can't imagine you'd find much better.

“A hidden secret in a lovely Finger Lake town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2009

We loved it. It was the perfect getaway for our very hectic lives. We arrived at noon and were aware we could not check in until 3. We were given our parking pass so we could park. We then wandered the beautiful village, and decided to check to see if our room was ready at 2 - and it was!! We were able to check in early and get settled. The rest of our stay was pure Skaneateles!!! We wandered the town, the pier to view the lake and look back on the village and town park, until 4 when there was a local parade - which we enjoyedl Enjoyed some of the great local eateries of which there are lots of options. We are particularly fond of the Sherwood Inn Pub and the ambience, great drinks and tasty food all with live music!!! We travel to Skaneateles frequently but have never stayed over. This time we did and we are gladl We were able to wake early, walk the village, coffee in hand and watch the world wake up in Skaneatelesl The hotel's continental breakfast was perfect and allowed us to start our day nicely. We also found added options at the main Sherwood Inn Porch for breakfast with aged Vermont Cheddar cheese on the table! What a treat. We will go back again, and hopefully again!!

“Lovely town, beautiful room, bountiful breakfast, but questionable parking conditions.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

Everything about our room was nice. The comfort, the view, and general condition of the room. Not enough pillows or extra blankets but we didn't request more. The room was really a living area and a bedroom area. The television was not viewable from the living room area where it could be used by the night owls. Our room was on the second floor in the front of the hotel but not particularly noisy as some had found.
There was no one on the "front" desk at the Packwood House much of the time. Coming back late from the Jazz Fest in Syracuse, parking in the open lot behind the hotel was not at all comfortable. Note there is no street parking overnight. The underground garage was filled. Then the way to our room was through the underground, but totally open to anyone, parking area to the elevator where you used your room card. With no security at a front desk, the option to go up an alleyway and down a side entrance to the inn seemed even more questionable. For the room rate we paid, there must be some better parking solution for the Packwood House guests who are returning late to their rooms or, at a minimum, someone on the desk to insure your safe re-entry.
