The Hobbit Hollow B&B is a comfortable and peaceful place for relaxation. We stayed in the Chanticleer room for two nights on a weeklong tour of the Finger Lakes region. The room was overly spacious with plenty of room for our bags and to stretch out and relax. Our room overlooked the adjacent horse barns and was cooled by shade trees. The bathroom was huge with a full shower and separate bath tub area. The bed was very comfortable with quality bedding. The temperature control kept the room comfortable, and the windows were easy to open for fresh morning air. The staff was terrific and helpful in every which way. The breakfasts were good with fresh breads, fruits and entrees. A few minor items that could use repair included a broken light fixture in the hallway and a loud bathroom ceiling fan.
Be aware that the adjacent horse farm is not affiliated with the B&B. While we were free to walk in the fields to see the horses, guests are not allowed to enter the barn area. The B&B is located about five minutes from the town of Skineatles, and was a very easy drive.
The one thing that Hobbit Hollow does not have is the charm of some other B&B’s. The recently renovated house is nicely decorated and well cared for, but is entirely new and has a little bit of a sterile feel to it. The owner is a company based in Skineatles that owns several inns and restaurants in the area. The hired innkeepers were wonderful and helpful, but only stay on the premises while they are on duty. The overall experience was a cross between a rural B&B and a nice hotel.
Overall, we recommend the Hobbit Hollow as a peaceful and relaxing place to stay in a beautiful, rural setting. We greatly appreciated being in a spacious and comfortable setting while only being minutes from Skaneateles and the lake.
