This is your grand old little inner-city hotel - a tall and narrow building adjacent to Proctor's Theatre. History oozes from the walls. One of those rickety old elevators. Narrow cast-iron stair cases. The cooking smell from the attached restaurant permeates the hotel (but fortunately not the room). We were given a 4th floor room with a gorgeous view of a flat roof and an adjacent brick wall. I'd guess that you'll have a nicer view from one of the top floors. The room was spacious, the beds were comfortable enough, the AC/heat was wall-thermostat controlled and quiet. The bathroom was actually very nice: Koehler fixtures, wonderful shower, everything new and renovated. Besides that, very clean. This is clearly the perfect place to stay if you are taking in a late show at Proctor's - you are right in the center of Schenectady. We didn't go for the continental breakfast since the girl at the reception desk told us we had to order what we wanted the night before "so that I don't have to get everything out" - that doesn't work, especially with teenagers ... she said there was cereal, bagels and english muffins to choose from. Overall, if you are looking for modern luxury, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable downtown hotel with character - this is it.
