“Great place for the price”

I had to be at Union College for a family weekend for my daughter's summer camp (Thursday to Saturday actually). I went on all discount sights to find a cheap rate, but none were available for what this hotel was offering. It was significantly less than even Priceline bidding. Ask for AAA rate or Union College rate. You cannot make a reservation online, but I emailed my request and they emailed me back within 24 hours. Not knowing the area of Schenectady at all, I was not sure of where the hotel was in relation to Union College, but when I called for reservation the staff knew exactly how far and the directions. I was pleasantly surprised when I drove up. The hotel is really non-descript. I checked in early and there was no problem with a room being ready. Only one staff at the desk, lobby was small with the breakfast "nook" in the lobby, but it was spotless. Computer in the lobby as well. The staff was so nice, they even let me in the back office to print something I needed. Room was decorated "country chic" style (not in the latest white linen), but was very clean and the bathroom was renovated. It was a larger room than I expected. The air conditioner was great (I actually had to turn it down as I was so cold.) No HD television, but a standard t.v. was just fine. Room was quiet and beds were fine. There are safes in the room. Mine didn't work when I got in, but the desk guy came up and fixed it asap. Only problem is that there is no internet in the room. When I asked if there was, the staff told me that there was a connection, but I would need my own wire. Who travels with a wire these days!!! Free breakfast was standard continental, but there was hot water, coffee and juice available at all times in the lobby. I requested a wake up call and did NOT get it. Staff the next morning was helpful and pleasant. Desk staff has printed directions to all local sights. No pool at this hotel, but apparently the restaurant associated with the hotel, across the parking lot is supposed to be great. I got the impression that there were many "regulars" here. Price Chopper across the street and dunkin Donuts around the cornerl. Just a few miles to Walmart and Hannefords.

Room Tip: They have a AAA and CAA rate. Ask for it.

“Uncomfortable First night {Hot}”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

We were there for three nights for business the first week of Agust, 2011.
One of us is handicapped with a cane so we requested a good room on the first floor.
They gave us the first floor "handicapped room", able to handle a wheelchair and large in size.
BUT the Air conditioning unit DID NOT WORK.
The non-handicapped member is always "cold" so when he complained about the heat of room being to much for him, it meant it was really warm in there. The handicapped member is always warm and also has trouble breathing in heat and humidity, and so "roasted" all night. Neither slept much due to the warmth of the room we could not decrease.
The next morning the front desk manager said they had called the tech to fix it, but since it had been "fixed" just two days prior, the whole unit would need to be replaced and that would take a few days.
They DID move us the second day to another non-handicapped room with a working A/C {ok for the handicapped member to navigate}, and we inquired if we would receive a discount or comp credit for the first very uncomfortable hot sleepless night the first night.
We were told by the manager that they felt they "resolved the issue" by moving us to another available room the second day, but would contact the owners.
WE were told at check out that since they "resolved the issue by moving us to another room the second day" that we would receive NO credit for our uncomfortable stay the first night.
Like a cold dinner one sends back to the kitchen, and second hot dinner still does not always take away the bad experience of the cold dinner served first, and often gets "comped" {removed form the check} or discounted.

“Large, clean rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

Stayed for one night while visiting nearby family. Rooms are quite large, very clean and well maintained. Bathrooms were like new with tiled floors, granite counters and nice toiletries. Jacuzzi tub and separate shower in the suite bathroom. Beds were comfortable.

The hotel was built to accommodate guests for events at the adjacent restaurant, and is near a typical commercial zone (grocery stores, big box, etc) that services the surrounding nicely kept neighborhoods. It is within a 10 min drive of a variety of dining and entertainment options. We had a great Thai at the the Bankok Bistro in downtown Schnectady.

“Don't Believe the Haters...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

Stayed for one night following a wedding at Mallozzi's across the parking lot. The location makes this hotel an excellent choice for someone attending a wedding. This is a small hotel-two floors, maybe 30 rooms (some wedding attendees could not get rooms because there weren't enough). This hotel seems to be geared primarily for wedding guests, I suspect. The rooms are nice, have nice bathrooms-granite, hair dryers, etc. My only recommendation on the rooms would be to improve the lighting-they are somewhat dark even with all lights on. Free breakfast bar was nice, juice, coffee and pastries-brought in daily. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Several previous posters commented on the lack amenities and lack of other entertainment in the immediate area which I have to agree with. The location of this hotel is basically in a commercial zone, primarily shopping. I wouldn't say it was a "bad" neighborhood. There is no bar or restaurant at the hotel and there does not appear to be any entertainment, clubs, restaurants, etc. nearby-with exception of Dunkin' Donuts. After the wedding that I attended, people wanted to go out for a drink, but it appeared the only option was to drive to downtown Schenectady which is a bit out of the way from the Belevedere-long story short, nobody ventured out and it was an early night.

The cost of the room was reasonable-discounted because we were attending a wedding there. the room charge was $88 + tax for one night (three people). All in all, it worked out pretty well. No, it's not the Ritz and yes, it would have been nicer if they had an in-house lounge or club nearby for after-hours entertainment; but I think because of the small size of the hotel, it's probably not cost effective to have in-house facilities. So for weddings, or if your visiting someone nearby, I would recommend this hotel. If you're looking for stuff to do nearby and not familiar with getting around town-this might not be your best choice. Kids would be bored here.

++They did have a VCR player in my room-go figure!

“Wonderful Staff Makes For a Great Wedding!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

I stayed 2x over the past 2 years, most recently as a menber if a bridal party. The staff was wonderful and accomodating for us in the bridal suite as we got ready fro the wedding. They brough us a cot, water, food and more! I had booked a room for myseld and another room for my parents and they were nice enough to accomodate my requests for close rooms. Breakfast was great and check out was a breeze. Only downfall was that after the wedding we still wanted to have fun and there was nothing to do! Wish they had a bar, pool or gathering area!
