The hotel is located in an area I wouldn’t recommend to anybody for a business trip. Although the reception area inside looks clean, the first thing you notice is the foul-stinking smell coming from the side area. I made a reservation to stay to the hotel and the smell triggered my asthma attack, which is why I cancelled to go to a better hotel. The hotel wanted to charge me a cancellation fee, which I am refusing to pay.

Had a lot of trouble reserving. Neighborhood is rough. Section 8 people seemed to be staying there. We had 2 rooms. One had no sheets, but a fridge. I had no fridge, but did have sheets. No toilet paper or tissues. Broken step on the stairs almost twisted my ankle. Not super clean, but, OK. Had concerns about safety for car and rooms. In-house phones did not work. Coffee/Breakfast was horrible/non-existent. Never again. Will pay more money for a safer, clean room with sheets and everything one expects. I will be suspect of Econolodges from this point on.

This hotel gives you very good value for your money. In spite of being inexpensive, it is very clean and comfortable. I also like it for the fact that it is conveniently close to downtown Schenectady and the train station. It is a very short walk from this place to both downtown and the train (Amtrak) station. Last, but not least, its owners are very nice people.

True the hotel is in a rundown area, but then, unfortunately, so is much of Schenectady. It is right around the corner from the Holiday Inn and the Days Inn, and within walking distance of the downtown and some restaurants. Easy to get to from the highway. Like many Econolodges, it is old but clean. The front desk personnel were not particularly cheerful but they were helpful and pleasant enough, and they charged us the price we had been quoted even though the 800 number told us the price had gone up since we booked and had changed our reservation. It did not look great, but we, two middle aged women, were perfectly safe - noone bothered us or our car.

The breakfast was not as good as one finds in many Econolodges- just watery coffee, non-dairy creamer, and packaged muffins. There is a Stewart’s nearby where you can get breakfast. However, the room was fine- the sheets were clean and the bed was very comfortable (better than the Holiday Inn we stayed in the following night). The shower was good and strong - the towels were minimal but clean and in good shape. The a/c and the tv worked fine . The bathroom was modern and the carpeting was in good shape. There were no bad smells. There was no hair dryer or iron but there was plenty of space to hang things, and there was a refrigerator and a clock radio. We got shampoo but others in our party said that they didn’t, so I guess it’s hit or miss. In short , we stay at many EconoLodges, and would not hesitate to stay at this one again.
