“We'll be back!”

We last visited friends that live in Saugerties during May, 2011. The campground is just a short ride to downtown Saugerties and everything it has to offer. Rip Van Winkle is one of the more rustic campgrounds we've used other than some state and federal parks. We like that the sites are spaced rather far apart and it offers sites in the back of the park across from the river which we found to be quiet and peaceful. The gal that checked us in called it "no mans land". It rained quite a bit while we were there but it didn't present much of a problem, at least for the site we had. We camped in a 30 foot trailer in May and plan on taking our new motorcoach there next time. The roads are graveled and could use some maintenance but it dosen't bother us - it has a tendency to slow folks down which is a good thing. We enjoyed camping here and plan on making a yearly return. One last note: You can forfeit the five dollar refund for the card used to open the gate. Keep the campground gate entry card if you plan on returning to receive future camping discounts up to 20% off regular prices.

“Will Definitely go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Amazing campground. Clean well maintained facilities, friendly helpful staff and GREAT location for some fantastic hikes. The sites are clean and give you good privacy.

I have to say the best thing is that they have a section exclusively for adults-something I don't see in a lot of campgrounds. A superb weekend!

I will definitely go back and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with another person (a friend or partner) get a "Lovers Lane" site. A...

“My new favorite campground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We brought a group of 11 to camp and were accommodated with a large group site with plenty of room, open space in which to set up our 4 tents and lovely pine woods for the kids to play in. The biggest surprise, however was the full canopy over three end-to-end picnic tables, the saving grace to our trip, which unfortunately was plagued by rain. If not for that canopy, we'd have given up. The staff was great with my many calls and questions. The rest rooms were plumbed and so clean. Loved the playground by the swimming beach and the Halloween walk. We met some nice people, took a great hike to Kaaterskill Falls (nearby) and will come back again to stay at Rip Van Winkle. It was wonderful.

Room Tip: This is a campsite. Bring a good tent.

“Great Catskills campground”

I've been visiting Rip Van Winkle on a near annual basis for about ten years now. I've traveled with friends, family and even a solo trip and have always enjoyed the campground. The sites are spacious, clean and wooded so you are not on top of the group next to you. The facilties are good--clean showers, warm pool and stocked store. It also has restrooms and water stations within a short walk from each site. It's location is great and I've been able to take day trips to various Hunter Mountain festivals, Kaaterskill Falls, Zoom Flume Waterpark, Woodstock and area golf courses. I definitely will be back to Rip!

“Rippin' It Up At Rip Van Winkle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

We just got back from an awesome weekend here. There were 9 of us in all - 4 adults and 5 kids, ages 2.5 - 8. Everything about this place exceeded expectations. Staff was friendly and helpful but let you be on your own. We arrived toward sundown with lots of hungry kids - and pretty quickly they had come out with all our gear and helped set it up.

We stayed 2 nights in a group campsite and had plenty of space. Good fire pit. All amenities available at the general store. Great kids pool, swimming hole, hay rides, etc... and the 7PM ice cream/firewood caravan is awesome!

Bathrooms and showers were VERY clean and cheap to use.

Neighbors were generally fine, everyone was friendly and courteous.

Overall: good value and a great place for weekend car camping, highest recommendation as we've stayed at FAR WORSE.

Room Tip: ask for campsites near the back of the grounds - worth being separated from crowded RV park
