My troubles began even before check-in as the evening desk clerk assessed a rate that was a full 84% higher than I was promised when I made arrangements with the manager just a few weeks before. I was told that the hotel was nearly full so they did not need my business! When shown proof of the rate comittment, the deskman called me a liar and refused to call the manager to confirm or refute my story. I ultimately paid for two nights at a discount, but the next day the manager told me he found another customer willing to pay a higher rate. Even though it was already the afternoon, I was kicked out onto the street with no place to go. When I demanded a copy of my paperwork, the manager/owner refused and actually called the police even though I had already packed and left the room. He then told the police that I had physically assaulted him! Thankfully the police presence caused him to refund my second day's charges. The EconoLodge Customer Support Hotline could do nothing but give useless apologies.
Other than that, the property was acceptable and clean. The room layout did not allow easy movement into the bathroom and the table was placed so it was not possible to see the TV while seated at the table. Breakfast included waffles, juice, coffee, and cereal. If you visit on a day that the manager is in a good mood, this place is a good value, though not a first class accomodation. The fact that the management is willing to kick you out at any time for no fault of your own, however, is a very real and serious consideration. Other venues in the area are more reliable.
