“Great customer service -- 2 seconds from the airport; clean hotel with nice restaurant attached”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I highly recommend this hotel. We arrived fairly late at night with our 16 month old, dreading our 6:15am flight the next morning. The receptionist, Christine, greeted us with such warmth and kindness and was so enthusiastic about our upcoming trip -- that it totally turned things around for us and started our vacation off the right away. She made sure we had a free ride to the airport through their free shuttle (which was operating at 5:15am!) and really went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable. The manager, CJ, also took the time to introduce himself and to make sure we were taken care of in the most welcomining of ways. The room was immaculate and the adjoining restaurant (and its staff, particularly "Robin") was also very nice. Our bed was comfortable and the shower and bed were better than those at the fancier resorts we stayed at while on vacation. If you are looking for a clean, nice hotel that is literally a 2 minute drive to the airport with great customer service, this is the one for you. We liked it so much that we booked a night on our return so we could have one more day away from home when our flight came in late.

“OK stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

This is a somewhat odd property, because the exterior and front lobby are completely renovated and fantastic, though once you go past the lobby to the rooms, it quickly becomes quite dreary and worn. So 5-star exterior, 2-star interior.

Cons:
Our room had some serious electrical/wiring issues. We had to prop our luggage against an outlet to keep the lamp working. Also the light by the door flickers nonstop.
Decor: decidedly 80s
TV: Also 80s. Also we had to (playfully) hit each with the remote to get the remote to work on the old TV with refresh rate issues.

We're not picky travelers and usually just laugh off all the little eccentricities with accommodations. But given the # of things we had to laugh off plus the worn state of the room, can't give it more than 2 stars :(. The fridge and microwave stacked on top of the shelf blocking the mirror was also an odd touch (wires for the fridge not long enough to reach outlet otherwise?)

Check in: as a PC platinum I'm used to getting the spiel when I check in (thank you for being a loyal PC member...here are what you are entitled too [explanation of benefits, discounts etc]). I received none of that and little eye contact when I checked in. I'm not an elite status snob so that's not a big deal, however did find that unusual...and must admit now that I wasn't acknowledged, I kind of missed it.

Pros:
Bed: comfortable
Lobby is good
Wait staff: when we ate at the restaurant for breakfast, the wait staff proactively looked up my room/status and told us a free continental breakfast came with the room. This of course is something the check-in staff should've told me. I certainly appreciated this gesture by the wait staff however: and their service was friendly.

As a place to crash for the night on the way to an ulterior destination (as in our case), the property serves its purpose. I stayed on points however, and doubt I would've been happy if I had to shell out more than $60 as the rooms are badly in need of renovation. If that can be done plus with better service from the front staff, probably the property can get better reviews.

Hello,

Thank you for the comments regarding your stay. I am overseeing a Priority Club training program that shows our front desk staff not only how to greet a PC member but to also let them know the benefits of being a PC member and what that entitles them to during their stay. I thank you for bringing this to my attention. We are currently in the planning process to redesign the property and hopefully this will lessen the maintenance issues and cosmetic look to the hotel. Thanks for staying with us!

“Very good for the Price. I was pleased.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I have read a few of the reviews on here and I must say that I think people expect a $500 night type room when paying less than 75$.

The price I received at priceline last minute was very reasonable. When we arrived, we drove up to the door checked in and then proceeded to our rooms. We checked in at around 11:30 or so. The lobby is nicely decorated. We should have been given one of the rolling luggage carts to carry our stuff to the room as the hallways are long and if you have a room numbered in the back, it is a little bit of a walk. Ask for one when you check in. or you could also request a closer room at check in and see what happens.

The staff were friendly. I asked for a toothbrush and two were brought to me in the morning. The beds were comfortable and very nicely decorated. They were CLEAN. That is the main concern. The bathroom is a little small but CLEAN. So clean I took a bath with my 16 month old. They had a removable shower head which was nice. The TV worked, the coffee maker and other appliances worked. It had a fridge and microwave.

Careful with the vending machines...one was not working properly and kept giving me back my money in dimes and nickels instead of dispensing the water i wanted LOL. It was pretty funny actually or maybe I was just over-tired.... I was too tired and forgot to tell front desk.

Newspapers in the lobby. Comfortable lobby seating and area. I could have sat there all day hanging out on my laptop. Green conscious. Family friendly. The courtyard and pool gazebo area is very pretty. I would stay there again.

The breakfast buffet was really good and hearty and the staff very helpful. Nice fireplace in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room close to the lobby when checking in.

“BEWARE!! Don’t stay at the Holiday Inn Islip Airport!!”

Had expensive jewelry stolen when I stayed there. There is a thief among the staff as my room was entered and my suitcase opened, my personal items rifled through and the jewelry stolen. The hotel management did nothing but state that the hotel was not liable for valuables left in the room. This is definitely not a safe place. There are much better hotels down the road so stay at one of those hotels instead

Room Tip: don't stay here; there are nicer hotels down the road

In regards to this matter: I did apologize and look into the issue of the missing jewelry. We did a lock audit because every time a key is used on a guest door it is recorded and shows what key was used. The only other person to enter this guest's room was the housekeeper, a woman who has been with us for 10 years. It is ludicrous to believe that a woman who has been here for 10 years without any incidents decided one day to go into a guest's suitcase and remove several pieces of jewelry knowing that we have recorded evidence of her entering the room to clean it. The guest accused other members of the staff as well but the proof we have shows that no one else entered that room besides the guests themselves.

The guest did not unpack until several days after leaving here so it is possible the jewelry could have gone missing at wherever they stayed in the meantime.

With 300 rooms and high occupancy each night, we have not encountered theft from our staff members from guest rooms.

“could of been better..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

The double beds in room were too firm, while the pillows were too soft. Antiquated tv with remote that didnt work, limited channels. Bathroom toilet with very low water presssure.

Front staff friendly at check in, but not that friendly at check out, not even eye contact was made by representative. Quick response to get remote replaced.

Loud groups in hallway most of evening, wish they had better security.

Overall an average stay..

Room Tip: ask for a quiet zone room if you want to sleep.
