“Could be nice but it's not”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2010

Looks nice from the outside and it's a pretty piece of property. The things you are likely to touch in the room look clean, but around the edges of the floors there is lots of dirt, lint and who knows what. Walls had globs of something on them, back of the door was revolting. Given the location and scarcity of hotels out this way I have no idea why the owner doesn't upgrade. He could certainly charge more. I have stayed in Days Inns and Motel 6s that are worse, but this is not nice.

“RUN FOR YOUR LIFE”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

Ewwwww, OMG and more. We walked in and ran the hell out. Requested our money back, after threatening we'd call the cops. We got our money back. 4 Girls on a girls weenend trip, a little wine tasting and some shopping and we were hoping for a nice nights sleep. Absolutely not. I won't go on with details. I would never stay there or ever recommend this place. For a $170 night that is crime. Pay more stay someplace else.

“Wish I'd found it years ago.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2009

Finding an acceptable room in August on this part of Long Island can be a pain-in-the.... Finding one that can be had for a single night can be even MORE of a hassle. Believe me, I've tried...a number of times.

That's why the Swiss Motel was such a surprise: clean rooms (I needed two), with no two-or-three-night minimum reservation, for a rate that was something less than a room at the Waldorf. (Although it DID cost more than my previous evening in Manhattan). Though the rooms are basic and fairly spartan, they are thoroughly acceptable alternatives to the over-the-top high-priced chains and seen-better-days "resorts" elsewhere in the vicinity. The staff is friendly and professional. The location is convenient both to downtown Riverhead AND the Interstate. There is even a charming, picnic area at the rear of the parking lot on the river, with flowers, tables, benches and a waterside deck. All things considered, the Swiss Motel was a welcome find.

“SCABIES SUITE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2009

I stayed here while attending a friend's wedding. One of the staff canceled my reservation, even though it was prepaid through Priceline. After a ton of haggling, and almost arriving late to the Friday function preceding the wedding, I was able to secure a room. That is NOT the good news, because my fiance and I contracted scabies, and brought it with us in our luggage back to our home, and we have been itching ever since (over a week). DO NOT STAY HERE!

“A- for service, D- for accommodation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2008

The service could just not balance the poor condition and quality of the rooms. The bright blue carpet and old blue tile bath I could live with, but the lighting was hideous, and the room felt so dirty. After staying at the W in New York, I felt like I went to hell at the Swiss. The owner/gentleman was so nice and friendly, and responsive and hospitable, but going back to the room was a nightmare. I'm kind of a hotel dork, and like the nicer places, but next time will spend 2x as much and stay at the Hilton Garden or Holiday Inn. The water tasted horrible; the kitchenette was useless; the shower was bad; no shampoo, weak quality towels, and soap was really cheap. The AC unit did not function correctly, and the main lighting was two flourescent bulbs pointed right at you over the TV. The only thing that saved the trip was my confidence it was cleaned well on the first day because the place smelled of bleach. For this price, pay more and stay at one of the chains...internet service was bad (that's why I stayed here and not at other area motels). Stay away from this place!
