If you love to camp, then this is the place! Gorgeous well-kept grounds, beautiful views, bugs, but…
We reserved a two-bedroom cottage (for 4 of us) along with several other families who chose other cottages and townhomes at this farm for a week of baseball. Our team was playing in the tourney at Cooperstown Dreams Park, and the family members were looking for a place that would accommodate some, if not all, of our families. Unfortunately we discovered that the ride back and forth to the park to watch the baseball games was long and tedious, winding along long and hilly roads. At times taking 30 minutes, and very much a hassle if you want to return to your place when you have long periods between games. This place is not close, and if you happen to have a foggy night returning you had better be careful. Watch out for the four-wheeling locals who think driving in the middle of the road is okay, and also watch out for the many deer. It is difficult to see on these non-lit roads, and driving back and forth to Dreams Park you have to be alert.
Upon first arriving at our cottage we were overwhelmed by the musty, old smell, the place stunk bad. In one room were two twin beds (cots on bricks, I’d say) with a ceiling fan, one small window, and a nightstand. The other room had one larger bed, with a closet and full dresser, ½ dresser and two windows. It looked clean, but upon further inspection realized it really wasn’t. Living room had a fold-out couch with a couple chairs and open to a small, but equipped kitchen. No air conditioning and no heat available in this cottage, but they did provide two extra fans… one of which didn’t work. The first three nights sleeping were horrific, each of us switching from one bed or ‘cot’ to another with a horrible, stained, stinky old mattress. Thank goodness it is shady, for it happened to be a very hot week.
The bathroom was small, on a slope with a wobbly toilet. We should’ve let the water run in the shower before the first person stepped in. What came out stunk as bad, if not worse, than the cabin itself, and trying to remove the stench off ourselves seemed to take forever. The hot water tank may be a max of 10 gallons, so take quick showers if you want it warm. You run out of hot water during the second shower of the morning, and may not have any more for a few hours. The toilet stopped up a couple times with their ultra-thin toilet paper, and we lost power in the bathroom during the whole visit.
The ‘store’ is really just a very large pantry, with a fridge containing ice cream and sodas for 1$ and miscellaneous snacks and supplies. The pool was cold, and quite a trek from the cottages situated way on up the hill. The studio apartments were nicer, and wished we had grabbed a few of those when booking our trip. These apartments are much closer to the ‘pond’, pool, arcade, etc.
Would I return? Not at their price. With the ridiculous amount of money they charge, they should at least use some of it to update this 'resort'. Ha.
I can always find a beautiful place to camp somewhere else... where I will really get my money's worth, and where I will know exactly what I am getting for the price. Beware.
