“Magical Weekend at Omega!”

Thank you all at Omega. This was my first time experiencing Omega Institute and what can I say. It was awesome, from the first moment I entered the grounds, everyone went the extra mile to help me, right down to a staff member extending his umbrella to me in the rain.
My spa treatment was one I will never forget. Kelly, massage therapist and Kathy Osterhoudot, esthesician were professional and caring for my first time there. The best I had when it comes to a massage and facial....I was comfortable and relaxed. I can't wait to go back. Thank you again for making my experience one I will never forget.

“Great weekend getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I wasn't sure what to expect on my weekend visit at Omega for R&R. We were picked up by the shuttle at Rhinebeck ($15 each way per person) and it was an easy 20 minute drive to the campus. I would highly recommend Amtrak as we were able to avoid Friday traffic. Book your tickets in advance. While we paid only $25 (booked a few weeks prior), I noticed it was $49 a day prior. Huge difference! We looked at the NYC chartered bus but didn't want to deal with traffic.

We decided on the tented cabin option which was affordable (about $250 for the weekend) and simple. It was quite a bit of a walk from main campus to the hill camping site, expect some hills. However, it wasn't tough and I think I walked back and forth a dozen times. The cabin is simple and the door does lock from within. Definitely need a flashlight and warning, pulley suitcases don't work well in that area (haha!) The bathhouse by the way wasn't bad... I was of course a bit worried, but it was kept clean. There were a crapload of mosquitoes that made their way there by morning (probably b/c it's the only bldg in the vicinity of the camping ground with lights on all night). There were 3 showers (there's a curtain to a mini dressing area and then the shower to the side of it), 4 stalls, and 4 sinks. I felt it was well-kept. The tented cabins were all sold out the weekend we were there. Enough said.

The yoga classes were good though it would've been nice for it to be a bit more challenging; I found the morning intermediate class and beginners class in the evening to be pretty similar. I was hoping the intermediate class would be tougher? It was rainy weekend but we managed to play some tennis (they provide racquets and balls free of charge) before a downpour, enjoyed a tour of their sustainable living facility (aka eco-friendly waste water treatment center), a walk to the lake (hammocks!), the library, hanging out at the cafe, etc. There was always something to do if you wanted to do something, but there was always obviously the option just to enjoy doing nothing. Staff was friendly and there was a sense of community there. We met other guests; there were many solo travelers.

For those who must be "connected", there are 3 computers for guest use with internet access. There's also wifi in the cafe.

I had a massage ($80) and it was darn good. It wasn't at the wellness center but at an "annex location" which was one of their cabins converted into a spa room. The food here was amazing. I was skeptical at first since it's all vegetarian but everything was tasty, fresh, and lot of variety for different dietary preferences. I enjoyed the oat milk and other diary products. Oh, and on Sat night there was dessert (brownies!). A must-try is the organic ice cream in the cafe (worth the $2.50).

Conclusion: I would definitely return. I'd stay in the tented cabin or the dorm option. I don't think it's worth staying in the "deluxe" cabin with a private bath. I've been to New Age Health Spa several times before discovering Omega. I can't even begin to compare b/c they are just totally different. However, for the objective of R&R, city getaway, yoga, and healthy eating I'd choose Omega any day. It's hard to explain the vibe at this place... it was very different than anything I've ever experienced. Check it out yourself; go with an open mind and you'll come back refreshed.

“Can't wait to go back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

My husband and I went for a R and R package to Omega for four days last month. Most R & R packages are 3 or 5 days- but the people at reservations were flexible. One of the things that stands out about Omega is the staff who are very dedicated and friendly. Everybody there is friendly, helpful, and down to earth.

We stayed in a cabin. It was comfortable but small. Don't go expecting world class resort quality rooms. If you go thinking . . .elevated camping you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you're picky you may want to bring your own pillow. You should also bring a towel for the beach, a flashlight (it's very dark at night), soap and, bug spray.

The vegetarian food was fantastic. In truth; some meals were better than others. They do have an extensive salad bar and choices of things to eat. I especially enjoyed the gazpacho and chickpea salad. I was not impressed with the pizza or tacos- but where I live there are many great restaurants.

I truly enjoyed the classes- some of the teachers seemed to be visiting for the week- like the tai chi, yoga, and meditation teachers. Others were staff members. It was a great sampling of what Omega has to offer. My husband and I felt so relaxed and renewed afterwards. If you are on the fence about going- you should go. Ok- they don't have 400 thread count sheets. It doesn't matter- you will get so much more out of going there than doing a "normal" vacation. It really was inspiring to us. On other vacations I have come back with dirty laundry and a hang over, but with this trip I really felt terrific and I can't wait to go again.

The reservations is incompetent, and the assistant director, Holly is not very customer service friendly, and apparently after 11 years does not know how to treat customers with dignity and respect.

“Clean and basic at Omega - but worth staying on campus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2010

Omega is not about the rooms, it's about the experience. However, if you are looking to stay in the nicest possible room, I would chose the A cabins, as they are most comfortable. I stayed in the single cabin "A" with my own bathroom, while my friends stayed in the dorms. My room was clean and basic, with a queen sized bed (with one blanket), ceiling fan AND (air conditioning!) It even had a small closet (bring extra hangers if you are staying more than 2 nights...) There is no TV, no radio, no chair, and VERY spotty cell phone service. In the bathroom, they give you two bath towels, and a small bar of soap, but no other amenities are in the room. The brochure said to bring an extra blanket, but I did not need one, as it was hot weather in June! (BTW - I saw the dorms where my friends stayed, and I was NOT impressed at the least...) I also brought bug spray, but fortunately did not really need either! The campus is very hilly, so bring your walking sneakers or sandals. It's VERY casual day and night, as people are mostly dressed in yoga clothes or something similar. Definitely has a friendly, summer-camp feel. There is a lake where you can canoe or swim, and a spa there as well!
