We chose this location because of its proximity to the train station. That is about the only thing this property has going for it- location. Upon check-in, we were given the key to our room and after 4 hours on the road, we quickly drove up and unloaded our luggage. Imagine my surprise when I opened the door to find another occupant laying on the bed. I will save you my embarrassment by not elaborating further. Needless to say, we quickly retreated and drove back up to the front desk where the clerk shook her head and replied, "I knew I was giving you the wrong key." She offered lame apologies, all the while giggling. For some crazy reason, we decided to stick it out and dragged our gear up to room number two. Room number two was in the back building, on the second floor. The building wasn't key-entry. The first thing you noticed, other than the fact that there was no elevator, was a nasty mold/mildew smell and that the building was not clean. After opening up our door and heading into the room, we quickly learned how we could have possibly walked in on another guest; there were no chain or latch locks on the back of the door. The room decor included a water-stained ceiling and wall paper peeling off the walls. The bathroom offered the same nasty smell and what appeared to be mold coating the tops of the walls. We slept in our clothes and with one eye open. I have since contacted the property and the chain and voiced our displeasure. We have heard from corporate, basically telling us that they are not responsible for each individual property as they are privately owned. Guess we will just be playing it safe in the future and not choosing Econo Lodge again.
