Just this week there was a horrible storm in New York causing widespread damage and blackouts. What does this hotel do to help people displaced by the storm? Raise the average nightly rate from $90 a night (for two double beds) to $180 a night- and are quite rude about it too.
The room itself was nice, and when I say was, I mean *was*. Twenty years ago it must have been a beautiful hotel. The lobby still shows signs of being impressive, but then there was the giant leak in the ceiling dripping into a bucket and the deserted front desk. The room was more of the same, good quality furnishings gone tatty, dirty, and broken (the drawers to the furniture barely opened). The tv was horrible and old, the reception had lines going through it that made me a bit dizzy. The bathroom was nice sized, but the toilet was tiny. I'm not very large, but anyone who isn't female, or isn't petite, would have a really hard time using it. I thought it was fairly clean, but then I spotted the burned towels and the giant spider on the ceiling.
So not only was it a crap room, but they charged me twice their normal rate and didn't regret it in the least. And in addition to that, they wanted to charge a surcharge for the pets and an extra twenty dollars for additional people above two. The bill would have ended up at almost $300 for one night- all because we wanted heat and hot water
The next night I (tonight actually) I ended up at the Hampton Inn, which charged the exact same price for a suite with 2 Queens, a fold-out bed, a microwave, and a refrigerator. And it was clean too. Their policy says no pets other than helper animals, but due to the power outages they allowed us to bring in our small pets. That's called decency.
I can't imagine why anyone would choose to go to the Clarion.
