“Only stay here if you don't really have other options”

We stayed at Christopher's Lodge because our son was playing in a baseball tournament at nearby All Star Village (which I believe is owned by the same people who own Christophers). The families of our whole team stayed here at the recommendation of a group of families who came last year to the same tournament. Let's just say we won't be recommending it to the team that comes to Cooperstown next year.

The place reminded me of the Disney Country Bears movie . . .meant to look very rustic and lodge-looking. At first blush, it's quaint and you think it will be just fine. And for one night, that may be true . . . but for seven nights it was not exactly the best place. It's very musty - went to store for Febreeze to spray the room daily. The rooms do have a refrigerator, which was great since we were there for a week, but otherwise are pretty tight - especially if you have more than two people staying in the room. Rooms seemed damp the whole time we were there. Bathroom is tiny, and the water pressure is temperamental - hot and cold in the shower changes with the flushing of a toilet or the turning on of the sink faucet. Plumbing similarly temperamental. Some in our group had to request plungers and draino at various times during our stay because the water pressure wasn't sufficient for the toilets. Also, one in our party didn't show up until 11:00 pm on the night they were checking in the place was locked up - they spent the night in their car because no one would answer the phone (the hotel check in is the same as the hostess desk at the restaurant; when the restaurant closed, all went home; they don't have a night shift like a typical hotel).

On the positive side, it's very convenient to the All Star Village for quick trips back and forth. The restaurant really had great food. Also, there are little deck-like areas outside the rooms which made a nice place for the parents to get together in the evening. However, if a team stays there, I would ask the lodge to put you all together. We angered a few rooms of guests who were not part of our team with our outdoor get togethers - they were staying in the midst of our group and were just totally outnumbered. Also, everyone working there is very friendly.

All in all, it wasn't the worst experience ever, but perhaps more lower end than we had expected. If you are staying there because of the baseball tournaments, it will work, but keep your expectations at a pretty basic level. We felt we paid a premium coming as a team - I think you can walk up and get a better price!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the back side of the lodge, facing the woods. If traveling as a group, ask for all...

“Not a place to get a good nights sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

We ate at the restaurant and it was good food. Room was clean. There were construction workers staying under us, drinking, obnoxiously loud and by 3am, we had enough. There was no manager to report it to since the reservations are taken at the restaurant. Would not recommend staying at the lodge unless you plan on partying all night, then it would be a good place to stay. I called and reported it the next day to the desk at the restaurant, by this time I was almost home. The lady at the desk was unsure who to report it to, took my phone number and I have yet to hear anything from a manager.

“We loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

Our team played at Cooperstown All Star Village and we stayed and ate at Christophers and Sabatinis. Our room was fun. It was clean, cozy and we loved the adirondack decor.
We ate the restaurant and my wife had firecracker shrimp appetizer and baked stuffed shrimp with house made french fries. I had scallops wrapped in bacon and a one pund delmonico steak with baked potatoe. The salad bar was great and so was homemade bread. For dessert we shared coconut cream pie which was the best we have ever had!
Check it out you won't be dissapointed.

“Best Place In Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

My husband and I first stayed at this hotel back in 2006 for our honeymoon. It was a wonderful stay and nothing could have been better. We also stayed the next night in a different room with some friends and the rooms were very clean and great quilty for our money. Anytime we came home from the military we would stay there and we just stayed this past December for our anniversary. I'm not saying nice things because I want you to go there I'm saying it cause I've stayed in motel from Southern California to Upstate New York and havent found one as nice and cozy. We had Wi-Fi on New Years Eve of all nights in our room. The rooms feel like you walked into the Adirondacks and the layouts are usually great for moving around in the room. My only negative I've ever had about the place is that the bathroom tubs are a tad small but other than that it's wonderful.

“True review”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

No wireless service as advertised. No managers on site, so you cannot get any response to any of your concerns. The room had a unfresh odor. Fruit flies every where.
Crumbs on the floor and all of the other bad things that are stated in the other reviews.
For those who rave about it, they either have very low standards or they are part of problem. No doubt some will like it. My guess is the good reviews are from people who have an intrest in getting you there. Oh and instead of putting a hold on your credit card when you check in they charge your card for the full amount. Good luck getting any satisfaction from them once they have your money. Big big issue with not being able to talk to someone who could actually do something. Owner or manager not on site.
