“Good hotel just outside of Cooperstown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

While my son was attending the Cooperstown Village All Star camp for a week, we stayed here for about five days. The hotel is well maintained, a bit dark, so it looks drabbier on inside than it probably is. But, it isn't a bad choice for those who don't want to stay in Cooperstown, it was convenient to the camp. There is a grocery store and fast food just south of the main drag, a five minute drive. The pool is green, small and skanky, but good enough for the kids. Rooms were cleaned on schedule each day. Parking lot is ample and well lit. Bathrooms were clean and updated. I would rather stay at a Mariott or Hilton chain, but this wasn't bad given we had limited choices for this location.

“Would never recommend!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We booked a 'large' room with a roll away bed. Got there around 6pm no rollaway in room. Room was very small 2 dbles that sank to the floor when sitting on any egde. They brought the rollaway and left it did not set it up. We called front desk to ask where it goes because their was no room for it. We were told we had to rearrange the furniture, move the desk, lamp, and 2 chairs next to bed...so now you can't get out of the bed on that side...and it should fit. After struggling to move the furniture ourselves we open the bed up to find no pillows or blanket. Once afgain we call the front desk and this time we were told sorry we dont have any extra linens for the bed the hotel is sold out! Our reservations were made 3 weeks in advance. The beds were awful and so was the service! the indoor pool was nice enough but you couldnt use it becasue the room was steaming hot no fans or anything! thank god the pool wasnt heated also! Dont stay here nicer places just down the street!

“A good relaxing evening............NOT”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2011

My husband and I were traveling to Vermont for family get together. We are from Wv.
we had been traveling for some hours and were looking forward to a relaxing evening.
I have a theory about hotels if the entryway is dirty when you walk in more than likely the rest of the hotel will be the same. This Clarion proved my theory true!!
The room had cobwebs in every corner, especially the bathroom. The bathroom door had to be propped open with trash can. The credenza the coffee pot was on was dirty around it . The coffee maker had DRIED coffee grounds in the pot. The carpet was dirty especially around the edges. The bed was lumpy.
No continenal breakfast. But you could eat in their overpriced restaurant.
Why would we have to pay a $2 service gratuity??? FOR WHAT???
Needless to say this Clarion Hotel will be the last Clarion Hotel we stay in.

“third best in the area, but real close”

Over the last year, I've stayed in the Clarion, the Holiday Inn and the Hampton Inn. These are the three higher end chain hotels in Oneonta. The are all perfectly adequate for any traveller, including families, but they each have different amenities that may suit your needs.
The Clarion has an indoor pool and is located downtown near shops, bars and quaint restaurants, but it doesn't have its own bar and the hoel restaurant seems like an afterthought. The Holiday Inn has an outdoor pool, bar-be-que and sports facilities (basketball, soccer, volleyball?), and a devcent restaurant and bar. The Hamptons Inn has a good free breakfast (and maybe an indoor pool, I forget). As for prices, I've priced all three at least 5 times this past year and the Holiday Inn is usually higher by about 30 dollars, then the Hamptons and then the Clarion. I priced all three for this weekend and the Holiday Inn was $199, Hamptons Inn was $169 and the Clarion was $149.
The service at the Holiday Inn was the best followed by the Hamptons Inn then the Clarion. This is not to say that the Clarion had bad service, but that it is just a notch below.
Indiviual trips may go bad, but you can't fault anyone for staying at any of these three places.

“Pretty much the only game in town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

I would give 3.5 stars if I could. I had a work function in Walton the day after my stay and was coming from Rome, so this seemed like a good place to stop. The check in process was relatively painless, and I was happy that I got a room with a jacuzzi tub after a lot of driving! The room itself was fine. It was up-to-date with a nice bathroom and bedroom. The TV was a little old, but everything else was of good quality and pretty new. I didn't use the restaurant in the hotel, which is open for breakfast and dinner, mostly due to a lack of options on the menu that appealed to me. The reason I am not giving this hotel more stars is: it's near train tracks which are pretty loud (not the fault of the hotel, but still an issue); they throw on a $2 "service fee" which is completely annoying and uncalled for; the fitness room air conditioner wasn't working, and it was 80º outside, which made it very hot in that room.
