“We had such a great time...planning on making this a yearly girls weekend!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

This was a great place to stay for me and my friends on our much looked forward to girl's weekend. The staff was nice and friendly and quick to satisfy any requests. We ate in the restaurant (Huricanes Bar and Grill) and it was delicious! The hotel even sends bellboys down to the ferry dock to pick up your luggage so you don't have to lug it all by yourself which was a very welcomed surprise. The hotel is right on the beach with a pool for guests and is a quick stroll to Flynn's, Schooner's, and the market...what more can you ask for?? We're already planning next year's trip!!

“Would return, worth the money”

Had a lovely stay with my bestie girlfriends in August. Were there negatives??? Yes. But, the positive did outweigh the negative.
As someone who has rented homes before in Fire Island and stayed at other hotels, the Fire Island Hotel hit the spot. Although the room was lacking some charm and could certainly use updates & some fabric softener (scratchy towels and sheets), most everything else about this place was great.

Upon stepping off the ferry, we were met by the most adorable young guys who loaded our luggage on golf carts and made sure it was brought up to our room (once the room was ready). The staff was mostly VERY accomodating and friendly. Katie, waitress at the bar and grill, is a true asset to the hotel. She was SUPER friendly and great service. The food was damn good & the $50 voucher to the restaurant upon check in was a nice plus.
If we needed for anything ie: more toilet paper, more pillows, etc... - need met immediately! Patti was working her tail off all weekend and making sure her guests were happy. I can't say anything bad about the service.

It's steps from the beach, clean and refreshing pool, great music and food at the tiki bar, laundry station available, within walking distance of everything OBP has to offer. As long as you can accept a rather simplistic room with limited charm in exchange for fantastic service and great location- this is the place to stay!
We plan to visit again soon, next time with my whole family.

“Regular on Fire Island-Has experienced it all and can verify its the BEST”

I have been going to fire island for years. I am a local islip girl adn have been going on friends boats and stayign in various houses for a long time so i know the accommodations on the island. This past weekend me and a few friends who have never been to the island decided to book a last minute trip over the bay, and didnt have enough time to rent a house, but didnt want to take the 1 am ferry home, and wanted to make a weekend out of it. The room was large, nothing flashy but was perfect. The bathroom was brand new which is HUGE on this island bc usually the bathrooms are the worst part. The pool was essential adn soemthing no other hotel on FI offers, and is abotu 25 paces from the beach, so you can rinse off after going in the ocean no prob. The location at OBP is nice because the beach during the day is the best FI has to offering being that there is no lifeguards bothering you. Also you can play sports, drink, eat and play music which you can do NONE of at Ocean Beach. The walk is about 15 minutes to Ocean Beach where the party scene is and was perfect beginning adn end to each night with friends. Not to mention the staff was incredibly helpful when we asked for extra towels, saw us strugglign with the ice machine escorted us to a new one, gave us extra blankets adn pillows upon request. Not to mention we got a $50 voucher to the restaurant which we were able to get free lunch with in teh middle of our beach day and then head back. Over all a great beach, great hotel, and great vacation! A+ and we will be back!

“NEVER AGAIN”

I thought "Fire Island" beautiful tranquil beachy!!! Well this hotel was none of the above. It was in such poor shape. Very very dirty. There really was know need for all the yuck. A simple sweep coat of paint some updates and it could have been really nice. The rooms were very very dirty. I mean everywhere not vacuumed sheets were like razor blades. Talking about blades there were none in the ceiling fan. The table on our so called deck was broken cracked in the middle. There was alot of litter throughout the resort if you want to call it a resort.

Thank god I went with my sister and daughter. My husband would have flipped deamanded our money back and we would have been on the next ferry home. I really don't think it needed to look so bad

First, thank you for your review. Our appologies for your disappointment in your stay. Our property is over 100 years old now and does take some doing to keep up, especially given the location and the short but busy season. At the beginning of each year we try to upgrade where we can and through the season, it is true, the facility gets worn. Also, at the end of each summer season, we admit sometimes it is rough around the edges as we lose many of the employees to schools and thus are shorthanded and may not keep up as well or as timely as we would like and it is also the busiest time of the year for us. Some years it is more problematic than others and given turn over with seasonal employees it is even harder to keep good poeple that "get" customer service. We have taken your complaint to heart and look to improve where we can.
In 2011 we have gone through a long awaited room upgrade, including linen upgrade, redecorating and upgrading electronics. I would like to extend an invitation for your return which can potentially change your viewpoint. Thank you again for your review.
