“Beware of the steps!”

Lovely little buildings, typical of what you'd expect of a Greek island landscape but if you don't like walking up and down a wee hill to get to your room and back then give this one a miss. Lugging bags up and down can certainly take it's toll especially in the heat of the European summer! Room was very basic and small, the bathroom was extremely tiny and you had to hold the shower nozzle whilst taking a shower. The mozzies had their share feed on me and the breakfast was extremely basic. When we asked the Duty Manager to book us a taxi the night before he was confused and thought we wanted him to get up and book it at 6am the next day and was not keen on that at all but we eventually got the message across that he didn't actually have to be up that morning for us! Gorgeous views of the Caldera and very close to walk into town and the great little shopping village there. Definitely visit Mamas restaurant next door to the hotel, she's a hoot, loves everybody and has great food!

  • Liked — The view and the originality of the classic Greek building look
  • Disliked — The steep hill to walk up and down.

“Well located and good hospitality”

This is not so much a hostel but a collection of townhouses turned into rooms. There is only one dormitory and the rest are all private rooms situated in the heart of Fira within easy reach of shops, restaurants and the glorious views of the caldera and sunset.
The room we had was clean - no mosquitos in sight - and was cleaned every day with fresh towels and bedding. The pool is small but good enough for a dip at the end of the day and there are several terraces to choose from to enjoy a beer in the sun!
It is basic, as is much accommodation in Greece - but the staff do look after you and it is just far enough from the main street to be quiet for a good nights sleep.

“OMG...the steps!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2007

Stayed at this hotel late April 07. Arrived mid afternoon via taxi that dropped us off on main road. Steps down to hotel were an effort, there were so many of them and really steep. If we had known exactly how steep, we would have used backpacks instead of suitcases. Finally arrived at reception and checked in, more steps to room. Room was very cold and small, king bed was actually two single beds, separately made and pushed together. Had to move both beds to open cupboard. Blankets on offer provided no actual warmth. Showering was an absolute trial. The shower head was balanced precariously on metal frame dangling from wall and water pressure made it fall off. Had to move bar fridge to move curtain to open window, only to discover filthy window that you could barely see out of. Breakfast was continental (more like al fresco)... left out of doors on bench in courtyard, were a slab of cake and loaf of bread, butter and jams. Mint or camomile tea bags were also left out. There was a jug of watered down juice (?) concentrate but the jug had mould growing inside. After that we took breakfast at Mamma's restaurant down the road (Excellent). Hotel does offer washing service but is more expensive than full service that is provided just down the road. Handy tip.... make list of clothes you give to hotel staff and check it when clothes are returned. I gave my clothes to hotel manager reluctantly and when they came back, they were still damp and a shirt was missing. Finally returned but easily missed. On checking out, the hotel manager carried one of our bags up to the road and then disappeared.
Overall, this place was extremely disappointing and exhausting getting to and from.

“Clean but mosquito infested”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2006

Stayed for 4 nights in a dorm room (room# 14), during autumn low season. The room was clean and well equipped with a fridge, TV and AC. The only problem was that the room was full of mosquitoes, these must have come from the sever as I didn't see a single mosquito outside. I was bitten at least dozen times during the first night, leaving me with nasty looking bites all over. Kykladonisia must be the most mosquito infested hotel I've ever seen, this is particularly surprising because the island itself seems to be very dry. I managed to control the mosquitoes by spraying the room with insecticide on subsequent nights. Not sure if I can recommend the place, maybe the other rooms don't have the same problem, at least ask to see the room before accepting and check the number of squashed mosquitoes and blood stains on the wall before checking in.

“Fine Stay, Low Cost”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2006

Stayed there in August with my girlfriends. we did not want to spent a lot of money therefore we looked upon a dorm type hotel. Niki was great at front desk, odysseas was very pleasant and funny and the free internet was a nice touch. I d recommend it to young people on budget travel and would definetely stay there again for 17 euros per person!!!!
