“In Paradise :)”

A cozy hotel with a spectacular view, be sure to stay here on your trip to Santorini!
In August 2011, my parents and I took a ferry to the island from Athens. A bus stop was conveniently close to the hotel, and we were welcomed by the owner himself. James was so kind, making sure we were comfortable during our stay. We stayed in a triple suite, with a master bedroom and a "cave" for me to sleep in! Everything was truly unique, traditional, and unforgettable.
The views are unlike anything you've ever seen before! The glowing sunset is a must-see, right from the balcony of the hotel. Even passers-by on the street above stop and stare near the entrance way of Hotel Kavalari. (surely wishing that their hotel had such a great view) ;) There is a stunning view of the caldera.
Also, be sure to visit the village of Fira and check out the wonderful little shops as you stroll along the cobblestone streets. But Warning: Don't ride a donkey down to the old port as it is extremely scary! Take care when even walking down to the port, since the stairs are splattered with poop and donkeys are not very good at stopping! We nearly got trampled! haha... fun times :)
And to the people complaining about the hot water or lack of modern ameneties, the water is plenty hot and who needs those technologies when you've have a beautiful view right outside your door? If you want to stay in a marble floored 5 star hotel, then you might as well just stay at home!
The only downfall of the whole trip is the noisiness at night. There is a bustling restaurant next door with very good night life.
BOTTOM LINE: Stay in this hotel! You are sure to have the best trip of your life!

“Fabulous view”

In August 2011, my girlfriend and I spent 3 nights at this cozy, small and charming hotel. We were seen to by Yanna and James, both of them lovely persons, always helpful and with a great disposition to answer all of our questions. The views of the Caldera are simply breathtaking! You must definitely enjoy that enormous breakfast, looking at the landscape before your eyes. The rooms may not be that large, but they are certainly comfortable. Definitely, if your knees and ankles are not in good shape, avoid this place, for you will have to be be carrying your bags up and down the stairs, and they are slippery... I myself nearly fell down more than twice. Though it is not that cheap, I simply recommend it for its convenient location, really close to where it's at, and not more than 10' away from the bus terminal where you can take transportation to Red Beach, Oia and other points on the marvelous island of Santorini. I am already looking forward to my 3rd trip to there! Parakaló!

“A Special place on a Special Island”

I have been going to Greece for many years, mostly for vacation. The HOTEL KAVALARI is a true gem. I love the Traditional Greek feeling, with some modern amenities. When I travel to another country, I don't expect things to be like home. If I did, I'd stay home !
The view is exceptional ~ on the rim of a volcano! the rooms are clean, and each one is different, and built in the traditional style of a 'cave room'. The staff is wonderful ~ the owner Fanis, James, and Anna ~ all very helpful no matter what you need. Breakfast on the terrace is fabulous, and the perfect way to start your day..... watching the island come to life.
The Hotel Kavalari is located in the town, and is walking distance to everything. I can not say enough about this wonderful place..... I feel like it's my second home!

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs, you may want to contact the hotel directly (email or phone), and se...

“Great Location”

Hotel Kavalari is well situated in the town center of Fira with a spectacular view of the water and sunset. We were unsure where to stay and settled on Fira due to being able to get a better rate on hotels, glad we did as being in Fira puts you at a center point of the island and allows you to get to the beaches in the south quickly or the town of Oia up north in under 30 minutes (on ATVs).

The hotel itself is small with beautiful common areas to enjoy the views of the water, the cliffs of the potted plants the hotel has taken a lot of care in developing. If you can get a room with its own balcony I would recommend it. Breakfast is included and was a very nice mixture of greek yogurt, fruit and breads. Staff was very helpful and the small bottle of win upon check in was a nice touch.

I would not recommend this to someone who needs a large bathroom nor someone who wants to sleep with the windows open as the sounds from the tavernas in Fira make it to your room - closing the windows does block out all sound though.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a private balcony.
