As a frequent traveler I am a firm believer in tripadvisor. You can cut your research time down on a destination by reviewing all the facets- places to stay, to eat and travel forums, made available in the one site. That being said I had the desire to go to Santorini, but I didn’t know if it was worth the long travel time, the uncertainty of the country’s current financial state and the cost. Fortunately, I made the trip and was able to stay at Almyra Apartments and Studios in Oia. You can choose to stay in the main part of Oia and experience the Hotels and apartments on the cliff side of the island and pay high prices, or you can stay on the quiet side of the island and experience the great views, sunsets and lower cost of a hotel or apartment and still be close to all the sites you want to see on Santorini. Evangelia the owner of Almyra is responsive to your emails before you arrive, was able to arrange for a taxi from the port on my arrival and even drove me to a local grocery store to pick up supplies when I arrived. The property is spotless, Evangelia checks on you to make sure everything is okay with the apartment and also helped with a local restaurant for a food delivery. Her English is more than acceptable and of course she helped with those of us who do not speak Greek! The apartments are close to the center of Oia, maybe a 5 minute ride by car or scooter. They sit right on the sea and there is a great private beach right down the stairs from the water side of the property. This was a fortunate find for a first trip to Santorini and thanks to Evangelia for all her help.
Room Tip: Communicate with the owner by email and she will provide a better rate than listed, even in high sea...
