The Good: Vicky was amazing... she was ridiculously helpful during our stay. She did so many wonderful/helpful things, including getting us a last-minute reservation for my birthday at one of the best restaurants in Oia. We had a great table, great food and the most amazing time, all thanks to her help in coordinating it all for us. There was also a really helpful guy who works in the restaurant and pool and he was really nice and set up the jacuzzi for a sunset/wine evening one night.
The restaurant was great. There are a million places to eat in Oia, but we found that some of the best food we had during our 5 days there was at the hotel.
The Bad: The rooms aren't great. I suppose they are what you get at that price in Oia... but I expected a bit more. They are spacious, but that's about it. The bed is ok in comfort, but not great. The kitchen was fine, but really dated. The tv should just be removed... it didn't work (not that we were interested in watching tv... but why have it if it is just a prop?). The worst part was the bathroom. It was IMPOSSIBLE to keep the water inside the shower, and without any way to keep the floor dry after a shower, it was impossible not to slip on the tile floor (this was not fun).
Overall, the value of Laokasti is ok... it's the people like Vicky who really make it better than what it is. If you are looking for something inexpensive and you don't mind making a few concessions, than this is definitely an ok place for you. There is nothing terrible about it, it just isn't great either.
I will say that the location is great... we were worried that the hotel didn't have a caldera view, but it's right across the street! We saw the caldera ALL THE TIME. We didn't feel like we were missing out on the view... maybe some people would feel that way, but we did not.
