“Fair hotel - just don't eat in the restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

The rooms are very nice although no aircon so very warm in summer. We didn't want a room overlooking the square as we thought it may be too noisy so we opted for one at the back but unfortunately we quickly realised there was a large fan from the kitchens on for the majority of the time and this was fairly loud. The rooms were nicely decorated although the matting carpet hurt my feet after a while. The bed was extremely comfortable. The owner had suggested having dinner in the restaurant which we agreed to, we made no booking time so headed down there around 7.30pm. We were seated in the garden area which was already very busy. I quickly realised that no-one was actually eating anything yet and it looked like everyone had arrived at the same time for dinner. Anyway the service was very poor, in my opinion there were not enough staff. Dinner took so long we left our dessert as we were so tired, we finished our main around 10.30pm. I complained the morning after and was told they were short staffed and that everyone had wanted to eat at the same time the previous evening. I empathise with them on this point but if they don't have the staff they shouldn't really allow so many people in for dinner all at the same time. In addition, they clearly need a better system to manage their restaurant sittings. It's a real shame. We left the next day although we had planned to stay another night.

“Decent hotel, shame about the restaurant.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Housed in a charming old building, this hotel is decorated with originality, but the public areas are dark and depressing. We liked our room, which had a bathroom, a separate toilet, and a small curtained-off passage connecting them. The bathroom was ultra-modern and particularly striking. Everything looked clean, new and modern. The two disappointments were the corridors, which housed a weird smell, and the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious, comfortable, expensively furnished and elegant, with menus and wine list to match. It has high ambitions, which it simply did not reach. Service was unbelievably slow and downright poor. The food was mediocre, certainly not living up to the promise of the menu. When we went in August 2010, the restaurant had just acquired a new chef (should that be “had just lost its chef”?) and, we later learned that it recently lost a key member of restaurant staff. Hopefully it will regain the quality level it aspires to. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, but our bill was wrong when we checked out (it was corrected without any difficulty). The hotel is well placed in the centre of town (on a square, but not noisy); there was free wifi and free parking.

“Very welcoming inn located in a charming village”

We spent one night in this lovely inn enroute to a conference in Paris. When the five of us arrived (two couples and one single person) we were greeted by a charming young lady. Signage with all our names identified the parking space for our vehicle. Each room was unique and all were very clean with lots of toiletries and comfortable beds. Internet was provided and about the fastest we used on our two week trip. We enjoyed a multi-course dinner carefully served. Since we had to leave early in the morning we were pleased to be provided with an early breakfast. The only drawback was the rain. It became a downpour shortly after we arrived and lasted all night.

“Strange hotel, restaurant overrated.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

My first visit , off season in March, saw the hotel fronted by substantial roadworks/repairs to the main square upon which it sits, several minutes walk from the river. Its a strange place- I'd assumed I guess that gloomy corridors lit only as you pass each section were a thing of the distant past, but they live on here, with a decorative style in the public areas that owes much to times past. The surprises continued in my room, since I fondly imagined that there was some kind of standard height for a WC. At a less than giant 5 feet 8, my feet swung freely and i'd imagine that anyone say five feet tall would have a bit of a clamber. Why? Another "why?" about their habit of tying up the toilet rolls with some rustic string by way of artistic effect one imagines, and certainly a triumph of form over function. The staff were fine and mostly smiley, though occasionally finding them was a bit of an issue.

My biggest disappointment came in the restaurant, whre I ate very nicely presented, pretty but not terribly tasty food at moderately high prices. The wine list though was just downright expensive- I couldn't see a bottle on the list for less than 22 Euros or more and of the few wines offered by the glass, the cheapest was 7E! So not a great many value for money marks in the restaurant as far as i'm concerned, and on my second night I braved the roadworks in the dark to eat more tasty food if less prettily served across the square.

“Nice rooms, great food. Appalling restaurant service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

This was our 3rd visit and the previous stays were superb. Family suite. Unfortunately this time around we were extremely dissapointed with the restaurant service not to mention the breakfast fiasco (same staff). We were informed of the menu and what was available for the children then promptly told 5 minutes later that the chef would not cook for our 10 year old twins - excuse me for having children !! Heated negociation and voila the children got what they wanted to eat. No complaints about the food - very good quality as usual
Service - No smiles, clanking of plates, mixing of orders, too long & no pride in what they were serving. Very dissapointing.
When we complained to management we were told "it's the end of the season". When checking out we heard "the staff will be changing soon". TOO LATE - the management of this establishment would be well advised to sort themselves out. Oh almost forgot - had to fix the shower ourselves........

Some you win - some you lose
