Housed in a charming old building, this hotel is decorated with originality, but the public areas are dark and depressing. We liked our room, which had a bathroom, a separate toilet, and a small curtained-off passage connecting them. The bathroom was ultra-modern and particularly striking. Everything looked clean, new and modern. The two disappointments were the corridors, which housed a weird smell, and the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious, comfortable, expensively furnished and elegant, with menus and wine list to match. It has high ambitions, which it simply did not reach. Service was unbelievably slow and downright poor. The food was mediocre, certainly not living up to the promise of the menu. When we went in August 2010, the restaurant had just acquired a new chef (should that be “had just lost its chef”?) and, we later learned that it recently lost a key member of restaurant staff. Hopefully it will regain the quality level it aspires to. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, but our bill was wrong when we checked out (it was corrected without any difficulty). The hotel is well placed in the centre of town (on a square, but not noisy); there was free wifi and free parking.
