“Romantic hotel in Burgundy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

This hotel is situated in a walled Burgundian vineyard. We had the cheapest room and it was still lovely. Many of the rooms overlook the vineyard There is one that is completely separate from the house with a private deck and jacuzzi tub. It looked oh so romantic. Next time we will ditch the dog and book this instead. In Europe unlike America this very nice hotel takes dogs for a small supplement. The owner produces some good wines and you can drink them in the restful garden. The pool is tiny but would be fun to cool off in on a warm sunny day. The location in the village is wonderful right next to the famous Chateaux. There is excellent walking and biking jn the surrounding area and a one star restaurant just a mile away.

“Quiet and extremely pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet setting on the edge of the vineyards in this small village only 5 minutes from Beaune. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful, and the room and bath very comformtable. Enjoying the breakfast each morning is a must, and enjoy it outside during pleasant weather. Getting into the parking area by threading the needle through the narrow drive is a challenge that makes the visit all the more enjoyable. (I can say that since I did not scrape the car on either side!)

“Best of 7 hotels we stayed at in France. Charming, comfortable and lovely breakfast.”

My family of five stayed here for three days about a month ago. We were on a 6 week tour of Europe in which we stayed a 12 different hotels (7 were French). The Villa Louise was the best of them and not nearly the most expensive. A lovely breakfast, a simple village setting, airy rooms and a fine vineyard setting made it the most culturally authentic stop during our month in France.
The staff reminds one of all the good things French society can engenders in its people. Civility, in fact a gentleness, in the staff. Understated and intelligent if you listen to what they say. They work hard, they care and on the whole they make you realize the focus is on regional excellence (in the choice of cheeses, wines and breads they serve). I had a great sense of well being staying here and would recommend it to any couple searching for a subtle, tasteful weekend (or short term) retreat in Burgundy. Given the regional cuisine it might even be better in the winter.

“The place to stay in Bourgogne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2007

We stayed here for a week, when visiting wineries in the Burgundy area.
If you are looking for red carpets, glitz, gold bathrooms and top-hatted bell-boys, then don't go. But if you are looking for a totally home-like atmosphere with really excellent service, this is where you have to go. It is only three minutes by car from Beaune, and in a far better setting than any hotel in the town of Beaune. The place is rural, in the small little town of Aloxe Corton, absolutely quiet. Just walk along the roads alongside the vineyards, then sit in the garden and fit in!
The breakfast is trully excellent, but there is no restaurant. We enjoyed La Ciboulette, just as you go into Beaune.
Another thing: distances are so short here that it makes no sense changing hotels if you are going to be in the Bourgogne area.

“Not what we were expecting...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2007

Villa Louise was a disappointment. Beaune and Burgundy were not!

Aloxe-Corton is a small village that is a 10 minute drive from Beaune. We were looking for a mid-priced property and selected Villa Louise based on the TripAdvisor reviews we had seen.

Upon arriving, we found the parking lot to be a tight fit... entry is narrow (with evidence of others who had decided to leave some car paint on building walls!) and the parking lot itself is cramped.

The Villa is essentially a country inn that at one time would have been wonderful, but today is in need of some refurbishment. The common areas are fine, but the room that was offered, and we had to take, had seen better days. Yes, it did have a large bathroom, fluffy towels and a flat screen TV... but the carpet was worn, the mattress was 'tired', and since they'd left the windows open, the room was full of fruit flies etc - perhaps it was the time of year... but there were also spider webs in the corners etc.

What was really frustrating was that this wasn't the garden view room we had booked. We were told that the original guests who had booked this room, and who had arrived before us, decided they didn't want this room and the hotel gave them our room --- and we were stuck with this room that looked out over the entrance to the parking lot. Not happy. We asked to be moved but there were no other rooms available. We complained about the cleanliness and although they weren't happy to learn about our displeasure, they did act on our request and the room was somewhat cleaner over the rest of our stay. But, one doesn't spend their vacation in their hotel room so we pressed on.... We spent the next 90 minutes cleaning and ridding the room of unwanted 'guests'.

Villa Louise also has a large vineyard and produces their own wine. They also have a very large garden area in the rear of the property with tables where guests are welcome to sit, absorb the ambience of the countryside (which is beautiful!), and try some of the wine (which we thought was also very good).

Breakfast is served in the common area. We ate there one morning and discovered that it includes all sorts of things - even a stewed pear (which was very good!). We decided we each also wanted a boiled egg which was no problem... until we checked out, when we found that anything not in the standard breakfast menu was an added cost - not impressive when guests were already being charged 15 Euros pp. Also, be warned, we noted in a previous review that you need to tell them if you will NOT be taking breakfast - if this slips your mind, and you don't take breakfast - they may still charge you.

We really enjoyed Beaune and the Burgundy region... but as for Villa Louise, it's just unfortunate that for a place with so much potential, our memories will be overshadowed by the poor state of the room we had (others may be better) and the 'nickel and dime' extra breakfast charge.
