“Great customer service in a great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

The desk clerks and van drivers were very helpful and acccommodating. The place is surrounded by any kind of restauant one might want. Maybe not the greatest place for a business person to stay on a summer weekend as the place was full of kid's softball and soccer teams and probably will be all summer, which makes it kind of noisy. The rooms are furnished the in modern Hampton style, but the desk in my room had no convenient electrical outlet to plug in a computer.

“No flexibility or Customer Service Common Sense!”

My husband and I are Hilton Gold members. We made our reservation well in advance as we always do. We had a rental car and Newburgh, NY was about an 8 hour drive. Our rental card broke down and caused a major delay (not our fault-Hertz rental). We called the Hampton at 7pm to tell them what happened and to see if we could cancel. We were told no by the front desk woman (I think her name was Ashley?). We were told 6pm was when we needed to call. We called her back at 10pm since we were still driving and we wanted to stop at a Hilton property closer to where we were. She again said no. We got there very early in the AM. When we got there to check in, she was rude to us. My husband called Hilton customer service and we were told the manager would call us within a reasonable period of time to make this right. We are still waiting on that call!! We are Marriott rewards members now.

“Clean and neat, shopping closeby”

Nice to see a lap desk waiting for us when we got in! Cozy room, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer etc. Comfortable beds, LCD TV, waterpik showerhead with 6 massage settings, indoor heated pool, free hot breakfast, nearby restaurant will give 10% off if you show your room key, free wifi, good proximity to shopping and various food places. Decent and clean, not luxury but definitely not run down or dumpy.

“Clean, friendly, as convienient as it can be to West Point”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

My husband had business at West Point and the family decided to go along as our young son has shown some interest in following his father into the Army but unlike his father would rather go to West Point than the ROTC route so we choose this Hampton Inn based on it's proximity to the campus.
We booked the room at Hilton Honors and this was an award stay for two evenings. When we arrived we were greeted kindly by Brittany behind the desk. She told us that there were three restaurants (Cosimo's on Union, Applebee's & the Grill-which was right above the hotel) that offerred a 10% discount with our room key and that cookies would be served around 7:30 but that they only made 2 dozen so if you wanted some to be there quickly (it wasn't a big deal to us but appreciated the info). The lobby was clean and looked to be recently remodeled. (The hotel was a probably a bit older than most but you would never know it though.) We were on the first floor (room 121) and the room was clean and had a small fridge and microwave as well as a nice television. The room was probably one of the cleanest we've ever experienced at any Hampton Inn. The bathroom had an exhaust fan (which is rare in the newer Hampton Inns) and was extraordinarily clean. It was also very large which is also rare in the newer Inns.
The morning breakfasts were very good and had one waffle iron. While the Inn seemed pretty full, there wasn't a lot of kids so there wasn't a "run" on the waffle iron as we had experienced last 4th of July in Smithfield, VA. The lady who ran it was quick to clean off tables and any messes left behind in the food section left by messy people who couldn't be bothered to throw their garbage away.
The fitness room had a Precor recumbent bike, elliptical machine and treadmill. They were well maintained and oddly enough there were quite a few people who used them pretty frequently. The only thing I wish they had were sanitary wipes to wipe down the machines after use like most gyms have (although many people don't do that either).
The pool was an indoor pool and was also clean and well maintained. There were towels at the pool so you don't have to bring towels from your room.
The first floor ice machine was not working but that was the only negative.
We ate at Applebee's which was probably one of the better ones we've ever dined at. The service was good as well which is also unusual in our experience. The second restaurant, Cosimo's (which is what was recommended by the desk) was excellent. It is an Italian restaurant and was very busy. We did not eat at the grill.
I would recommend this hotel and we will stay there again when we return to West Point in a few months. There is no real "easy way" to get to West Point from there but if you have the points and don't want to spend what would be approximately $150 over a two night stay at the Hotel Thayer, this is a great place to stay.

“Best Hampton Inn ....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2011

Hampton Inns are usually our first choice. They are always clean, friendly and predictable. When I read the negative reviews of this hotel I was surprised. I was in the area prior to our stay so I dropped by to check it out. I was honest with them about the negative reviews. They told me they were aware of the negative comments and that a new front end manager was hired within the last few months. Since then, they have had good feedback. So, I made the reservation and we were NOT disappointed. As a matter of fact, we found this hotel to be one of the best Hampton Inns we have stayed at. The room was modern, clean and very well appointed. Please don't let the bad reviews scare you away. This is a great hotel.
