“Disgusting and unsafe”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2009

This hotel is disgusting. My boyfriend and I were going to stay there using our reward points but you could not even pay me to stay there. Our room was very stuffy and dirty. You could barely even see through the sliding glass door. Within a half hour of checking in a police officer showed up and said there was a larceny in the room next to ours. That was the last straw so we immediately checked out.

We called Choice Hotels to get our points back and the person on the phone said it wasn't the first time that has happened.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Econo Lodge Near Stewart International for your recent stay in our area.

Upon receipt of your review the following steps were taken immediately:

1) The housekeeping staff received additional training as to what we expect of them in maintaining the standard of cleanliness which we have set for our establishment.

2)Both the maintenance staff and the housekeeping staff were spoken to about finding some way to see to it that the rooms are less stuffy.

I’m sure that you were horrified to have the police officer come to your room and explain to you about the matter of the larceny which was committed in the room next to yours. Our security staff has received extra training in the matter of their responsibility in keeping proper watch over the safety of our valued guests.

I hope that the next time you visit in our area you will say at the Econo Lodge Near Stewart International. I think you will be greatly pleased.

Sincerely,
Hotel Manager.

“Newly remodeled but a big disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2008

While this hotel looked fairly decent, the service was a big letdown. The outsourced cleaning staff did not clean our room until 3:00 just when we returned from a tiring day. The next day they forgot and left the used towels and trash in a corner of the room. The desk rarely had a clerk present & it was necessary to call them and then they were not very knowledgeable. The breakfast buffet was very meager. On one of the weekend nights there was a large party nearby & next door three lively noisy children. My earplugs couldn't block that din. The price was reasonable but not worth the problems. Unfortunately this area does not have many nice motels to pick from that are reasonably priced.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Econo Lodge Near Stewart International for your recent stay in our area.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. These are one of our best tools in seeing to it that the standards which we have set for our establishment are being maintained.

Upon receipt of your review the following actions were taken:

1) The housekeeping staff received additional training as to the standards of cleanliness which they are expected to meet in maintaining the rooms at our establishment.

2) Management and security both received additional training in what is expected of them in dealing with guests who are having parties. While we want all of our guests to enjoy themselves during their stay here, we also expect that the noise will be kept at a proper level out of respect to other guests.

3) Management and security both received additional training in dealing with the matter of lively noisy children. Parents have a responsibility to see to it that children are properly attended to and sometimes all that is needed is a gentle reminder to help them to meet this responsibility.

4) Management received additional training in how best to maintain the front desk and the importance of seeing to it that they do their best to see to it that it is manned during the proper hours for the convenience of our guests.

I hope that the next time you are in our area, that you will stay at the Econo Lodge Near Stewart International. I think you will be greatly pleased.

Sincerely,
Hotel Manager.

“Do not stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2007

BEWARE! Save your money and avoid this place at all cost!!

This place was the biggest dump in the world. When I pulled up into the parking lot, I knew I made a mistake in making a reservation here. It was late so we didn't have many options left, plus it was only for one night.

The lady at check in, also the manager for the evening ,was very rude. She acted like we were bothering her and was wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible. Most motels will write down a your room number on an key card envelope, not this place! Thank goodness my fiance remembered what room she said! It was late and I was ready to crash.

Our room - disgusting!! The carpets were moldy and very dirty; the beds were old and bouncy; pillows were flat; the hallways were not very clean either. The bathroom was the only semi-acceptable area in the room, of course the towels were thin and rough.

They supposedly have free wi-fi. Of course it wasn't working in our room on the 2nd floor. My fiance called the front desk and the lady was clueless. She said we must not know how to connect to their network because her internet was working. Um, my fiance is in IT and he has set up enough wireless network both professionally and for friends and family. There was no signal whatsoever and we weren't that far from the lobby. He really needed to log in to check his work emails so he went down to the lobby and sat there for half an hour working.

They offered free continental breakfast but we didn't even bother to look.

There is nothing positive about this place. This place totally crept me out and I was dying for morning to come so I can get the heck out of there.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Econo Lodge Near Stewart International for your recent stay in our area.

First of all, I would like to apologize to you for what you have spoken of as rudeness on the part of the manager for the evening when you checked in. That sort of treatment of our valued guests is not something which we will tolerate and that has been made clear to all of our employees.

The housekeeping staff has received additional training in the matter of what we expect from them in maintaining the level of cleanliness upon which we insist.

Our maintenance staff has been notified about the problem which your fiancé experienced in trying to connect with the free internet which we offer to all of our guests. They have received additional training in being able to see to it that this internet service is made available.

Management has been notified that the free internet connections which we advertised are to be made available to each and every room. We will not accept any excuses nor do we expect our guests to do so. I am so sorry that your fiancé was inconvenienced by having to do his necessary work in the lobby.

I hope that the next time you are in our area, you will stay at the Econo Lodge Near Stewart International. I think you will be greatly pleased.

Sincerely,
Hotel Manager.

“Crack house”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2007

Used "[--]" for this dump.

Besides the fact that this "hotel" was extremely difficult to find,
when we finally did locate it, I knew the minute I looked at the outside of it that I would give away my money NOT to stay here.

This dump looks horrible from the outside (red "carpet" had holes in it), smells even worse inside.

The lady behind the registration desk could hardly speak english and her husband/boss seemed not to speak english at all.

I forfeited the money for my reservations NOT to stay in this dump.

Crack house says it all.

“Special Occasion? Maybe don't be frugal.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2006

Room: Ours "looked" clean but smelled so moldy, mildewy, and with the thickness of old cigarette smoke that it infested all our cloths the first night. It was so bad that in one night my ties and the brand new $1000 suit I wore to the wedding the next day smelled as though it came out of storage in my grandmother's attic. You might think you will escape it when you leave but NO... opening our bags at home triggered a fit of coughing we couldn't start the washer and visit the dry cleaner fast enough. Even the suitcase needs to spend a day in the sun outside.

The pillows looked a little old, sketchy yet tolerable. Towels fine, plumbing fine, bathroom was small but clean and functional, and there are absolutely NO bugs. These amenities are true to form for the 1-2 star hotel.

Service: This was our first break from work in months and we wanted to rest before going to the church for a full day of wedding. We were down the hall from the laundry room, with the "do not disturb" out and still awoke in the morning to blaring music of some nondescript religious/cult-soaked-origin from the cleaning staff in the hall.

Area: The continental breakfast is a kind gesture but left us wanting. Sadly, there is nothing for breakfast in the area other than fast-food or a bagel.

  • Liked — Clean room, clean bathroom, clean towels, no bugs.
  • Disliked — The thick, opressive smell of mold and old tobacco smoke
  • Tips/Secrets — Prepare to drive to other town for non-fast-food brunch or breakfast.
