“Not a bad deal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2011

We needed several rooms for a family event over a long weekend, and it was a good value. If you are looking for a resort quality hotel, this is not for you. It is really made for the working traveller, needing a place to live for an extended time, who doesn't want to eat out constantly. The rooms were clean, but worn. It does need a face-lift, which unfortunately will result in higher costs. The exercise facilities were ok. There are complimentary washers/dryers, which would be great for the business professional, or a family on vacation--just for a place to crash at night. The kitchenettes are small, but adequate--afterall, who is going to do Thanksgiving dinner there? It is convenient to the Thruway, and getting around that part of New York state. It worked great for our needs. As an extended stay, don't expect the daily maid service, think of it a bit as being at home! I believe the housekeeping is on a weekly basis, but you can exchange towels and linens at the front desk. It is close to shopping, eating, other things to do.

“Amazing experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2011

I stayed for one and half months for business purpose in Candlewood and had good experience. They have wi-fi enabled rooms with kitchenette and stuff. Almost self contained. We had good time in cooking. Hotel is quite accessible from freeway as well.Great place too.

“Absolutely miserable - from start to finish.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

My husband and I booked this hotel for one night because it was close to a friends house for their engagement party. When we first walked in, it looked a little sketchy, but we figured how bad could it be? We got checked into a room on the 2nd floor. The room was "ok" at first, but when you walked into the bathroom - the entire ceiling and wall (especially around the shower) was peeling off the wall! We left the hotel around 5pm to go to an engagement party and when we got back around midnight, the key to our room wouldnt work. We went down to the lobby and was told that the guy working earlier didnt remember if we had checked in or not, so they moved us in the computer to the 3rd floor!!!! Are you kidding me???? So they reactivated our keys and we went to the room to go to bed. The next morning we went to check out and they tried to overcharge us. I guess when they changed our room - the rate went up? So finally they printed the reciept saying the price we were quoted, which i then signed (i did not sign the receipt for the higher price, luckily). Well, i just logged onto my credit card and guess which price they charged me... The HIGHER ONE!!!! Now-it is only a matter of $24 difference, however, the stay was horrible and noone seemed competent enough to handle our one night stay! My credit card company will be working on the disputed charges now which is another big hassle. I've also contacted guest relations and they are sending it over to the manager of the hotel to work on (which i'm not going to be holding my breath for).
It is a very good priced hotel, however If i had known what this experience would have been like, I would have found a different hotel for a little more money.
This is my first review ever written. But I feel very strongly about the bad experience that I had, and wanted to make others aware to be very careful (and watch your credit card statement) if staying here!

“Huh? Was this the same hotel other reviewers stayed at?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

I named my own price with Priceline.com and got a room for one night at this hotel for a steep discount. I've used Priceline for several other trips with decent results, but the reviews for this hotel made me think my luck had run out.

My wife and I found this to be a great, great deal and an excellent room. Check in was very fast, front desk clerk friendly and efficient. The hotel grounds were well maintained and the common areas were clean -- although there was a faint smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway outside our room (in a non-smoking section of the hotel).

The room itself was VERY clean and well appointed. The only disappointment was the smaller TV -- given it's an extended stay hotel, I would have thought they'd have a large screen TV. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots & pans, microwave, fridge, stove top and everything you'd need to cook.

The bed was extremely comfortable -- better than our bed at home. We found the hotel to be very quiet and didn't hear a peep all night long. We were on the back side (non-street side) of the hotel, but the hotel is tucked away and not really near a busy street. We did hear a train once, but it wasn't bothersome. We certainly did not hear any other guests -- not even the traditional slamming of doors first thing in the morning!

We did find the next morning that we didn't have an ironing board in our room (although we did have some wrinkled clothes!). Within 5 minutes of calling the front desk, the housekeeper brought the needed ironing board.

Overall, this was one of the better deals we've got through Priceline. The hotel was in a great, great location -- within 2-5 miles of the places we were going -- close to restaurants & shopping and not too far from New York City. I'm cheap -- I wouldn't pay full price, but I'll certainly pray we win this hotel again when we stay in Nanuet again!

“The term craptacular comes to mind”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

I had the underwhelming displeasure of staying at this hotel recently. Considering the price for your typical NY, NJ hotel, this property was reasonably priced, but I would definitely pay a little to stay elsewhere.

- The cleanliness of the hotel was 'ok'
- The Sleep Quality was poor due to the lack of proper insulation... The classic paper walls hotel. It's one thing to hear someone pass gas in the next room, it's another to smell it.
- The front desk staff were hit and miss. The first shift front desk agents seemed to be provide more consistent worthwhile CS.
- The reliability of the housekeeping was 'ok'

I tend to consider Candlewood Suites a lesser brand to IHG's similar StayBridge Suites and this property definitely confirms my consideration.
