“what a dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

this place is overpriced and is the dirtiest place ive ever stayed. the tv is from the 70s the remote control is huge. the walls were yellow with dirt the kitchenette was ready to fall down. they charged us 600 dollors for 3 nights. the privacy is very bad with people walking outside your room window all night. the pool is tiny and lastly the bathroom was a disgrace filthy.

Sun 'n' Sound is a very clean hotel. Our units have full kitchens not kitchenetts and none are in disrepair. Our full bathrooms are clean and large enough to fit a fulll size tub with shower combo. Our units have new Queen and Twin size beds, carpets and sofa beds this season. The walls have wallpaper that is old but not dirty. All our windows and sliding glass doors have blinds or drapes to give our guests as much privacy as possible. Our units have full kitchens not kitchenetts none of which are in a state of disrepare. Our oldest TV's are from the mid 90's and the remotes are not large unless they are universal remotes. Our pool is 30ft long and 12ft wide with a depth range of 3ft to 81/2 ft which is far from tiny. If a guest has a problem of any kind during thier stay if it is brought to our attention we do our very best to rectify the issue promptly.

“Very OK...”

First of all, it was a bit of an antiquated system to make the reservation. They could only take reservations by fax, not by telephone or internet, so that was a hassle.
Our room was clean, but looked as though we were stepping back into 1950 - I don't think a thing has been changed or renovated since then (and the room was not cheap - $170 per night with a two night minimum.
The bed was not very comfortable and there were skylights in the room that let in light very early so we could not sleep in.
Things could definitely have been worse, but when we return to Montauk, we definitely will not be staying at the Sun n Surf again,

“Yearly Vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2008

We are anticipating our 3rd year staying in the Sun & Sound Resort. We go with a large group, usually booking almost the entire resort, which makes the stay a huge success. The rooms are typical Montauk rooms. Don't expect five star, figure the close proximity to the water you are going to smell water. The kitchen is great for the nights that you just don't want to eat out. The staff is very tolerable considering we travel with 15 - 20 kids. They run the place, using the pool and the suffle board while they are not pumping enless quarters into the ice cream and soda machines. The back deck/bbq area is great for our yearly end of the week bbq/birthday party for one of the kids. You are so close to Gossmans that it is dangerous on your wallet. No problem walking for a drink or sweatshirt and there is also a deli within walking distance for that breakfast sandwich or whatever you may have forgotten. Although Sun & Sound is water front there is no beach. A short walk towards Gossmans there is a private beach that we have had many fun barnfires at night watching fireworks across the sound, during the day bring a kite and have a ball without being bothered by a soul. You are not in the middle of the crazy "town" scene, but is only a short drive away. If you can...you must have a drink at Liar's Salon, the owner and his girlfriend are there to share great stories and sing along to either band or the great jukebox. Vinny & Ceecee are staples in Montauk...stop in and say hi, you won't be dissappointed. Check out Star Island Marine, great waterfront bar food in flip flops and bring the kids, they will love it. Don't forget their bathing suits, the pool is great for them while you enjoy a cocktail and app around the pool listening to the music (sometimes live). All in all you can't beat the times you will have with your friends and family at the Sun & Sound and in Montauk in general. Go with an attitude that this is the beach and you won't be dissapointed. You are at the END....and there is no place like it in the world-

  • Liked — It just works for our group of extended family and friends....

“Suprise for my birthday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2006

My boyfriend suprised me with a stay at the sun and sound for my birthday weekend in September. When I walked in the room, I was impressed. We had a view of the sound, and it was beautiful. The kitchen, and living room area, were comfortable. The bedroom was upstairs in the loft. Very romantic
But the best part of the trip was outside on the private deck. We were enjoying the view, the stars were magnificent, and the sound of the sound was so romantic. The only thing that made it more beautiful, was my man asked me to marry him on that deck, put the most beautiful ring on my finger, and of course, I said yes!
We celebrated in comfort and style. I could not have been happier. We ordered dinner, had it delivered, opened a bottle of wine and celebrated.
I cannot wait to return to the sea and sound. It will always hold a special place in my heart!
Robin and Gary G.

“Loved the Sun n' Sound”

My boyfriend and I stayed there for the second time this past weekend. We both love it and plan to come back many more times. We love listening to the sound of the waves hitting the wall while relaxing in the room. We found it very romantic. It is very very clean and the rates are the most reasonable we have found compared to many of the other motels we have stayed in in Montauk. We love it.
