“a Customer Service Review”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I called the other day to make a reservation. A rude woman answered. She refused to give us any information about the cancellation policy, which is not stated on their website, handicap accessibility and the pet policy. We have a seeing eye dog.

She refused to answer any questions until I had a reservation number. I asked her if this was because policies changed based on the dates as it is a tourist area. She begrudgingly said it varies based on the room, availability and dates. I gave her the information and she still refused to tell me about any of these policies without a reservation.

There are a lot of places in this area with the same pricing. I urge you to stay somewhere that is customer friendly.

“Very pleased!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I consider myself to be a rather tough judge when it comes to hotels. I have stayed in many over the past few years. Number one on my list is cleanliness. Next is comfort. Third is staff friendliness. I stayed at this hotel for one night because my son is living at a nearby residential school and this hotel is conveniently located. I was extremely pleased with all three of my hotel requirements. I checked in very late and the gentleman (Mark?) at the desk was fantastic. Friendly, helpful, etc. The room was very clean. Recently updated or refreshed. Whatever it was, it appeared to be very well maintained. The bed was very comfortable. The linens were great. My one and only disappointment was probably the fact that the internet was by ethernet, not wireless. Having said that, many wireless hotel connections have been less than adequate, taking lots of time to load pages, etc. So, perhaps the ethernet has its advantages. My stay was during this hotel's off-season. They are busiest during the summer months catering to the Cooperstown baseball families. I am sure it is possible they may not look quite as perfect when they have a full-house of families with children. Either would I. Just saying, if you want a clean, comfortable, friendly place to stay, give them a try. My only regret is that I did not stop here sooner. However, I will be back, again and again! Great job!

“COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

A very pleasant stay. Location is good and easy to find. Staff was great and knew the area which made it easy to find the places we wanted to visit. The breakfast was excellent with a little variety each morning. Our room was clean and well decorated. The pool and spa area is very nice, but the pool is small and can get crowded on weekends. Our stay could not have been better. Thank you Country Inns & Suites Cooperstown.

“It's Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

I look for cleanliness and comfort when booking a hotel above all else. This hotel was both.
My family and I were visiting colleges in Oneonta but did not want to sleep there because the hotels there were overpriced and the reviews not so great. So the Country Inn Cooperstown was 20 minutes away and we decided that would do fine.
THE GOOD: The 2-Queen room was large enough for my husband and me and our two teens, one of whom slept on a fold-out cot. The TV is the older kind (not a flat screen), no DVD player. The room has a desk with two desk chairs and a comfy easy chair. There's a safe, fridge and microwave. The bathroom is large with a nice big counter to put your stuff on. Beds were comfortable. We only paid $83.70 for this room (203) from Booking.com!

THE BAD: The electrical outlet was not working in the bathroom. The front desk clerk flipped the circuit breaker, which didn't do the trick, and then he gave us an extension cord to use. Turned out the outlet finally did work and we didn't need the cord, but that was annoying.
The breakfast was typical Country Inn fare but only one waffle maker can take forever when a bunch of people are waiting to use it. The smell of the chlorine in the pool wafted all the way up to the second floor where we were, out in the hall. The room also had a stale smell when we entered.

THE UGLY: BEWARE: when you check out, check your bill!!!
They charge you for the safe and a "service fee". I told the clerk I did not use the safe and he took the $1.50 off the bill. I then asked what the service fee was for and he said something I couldn't even remember making sense. So I just said, "Hmmm..." He took that off the bill too (another $3.00). It's not that much money, but I don't like being scammed into paying for something I didn't use or can't understand (like a "junk" fee). And the quick way in which he removed the fees means many others must complain.

Room Tip: Room 203 is a little far from the elevator but is right near the staircase leading down to the pool...

“Incredible Redesign to the Country Inn & Suites Brand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

While traveling to visit friends and family in April, I crossed New York State from Jamestown in the West to Cooperstown in the East before crossing into Vermont. Along the way here, I took back roads off the Interstate to see some old New York towns up close and personal. I lodged for just 1 night at the newly renovated Country Inn & Suites along the way. Although the hotel is a few years old, in converting from the Howard Johnson chain to a Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, the hotel looks brand new again!

Upon arrival, the spacious lobby where complimentary breakfast is served provides a nice spot for relaxing or meeting friends before heading out for dinner. There's also a spot to pick up snacks, beverages, local memorabilia (like the Cooperstown version of Monopoly) or even a frozen treat you can prepare in your rooms microwave.

In addition to the microwave, each room features a fridge and flat screen TV, and a very comfortable bed. The rooms are all recently remodeled, and I loved the color scheme and design. Free internet is offered, as is coffee 24 hours a day. Morning Breakfast is a nice mix of hot selections and favorites like cereal, bagels, yogurt and juices. The hotel also has a nice size pool, including a kiddie pool and a hot tub. I didn't indulge these on my brief visit. All the staff I encountered were pleasant, smiling and/or greeted me as I passed in the hall.

The hotel is just outside of Cooperstown, and in minutes, you'll be downtown to explore the Baseball Hall of Fame, or any number of shops, restaurants and historic sites. I was visiting a friend who drove, but I'm guessing it was about 5 miles to Downtown. However, it's right next door to the Cooperstown Dream Park. I visited in the off-season, but in summer, expect to book early and pay well in this area during the high season. I was traveling solo, but in general you'll find Country Inns & Suites nationwide cater to families. If you're looking for a romantic escape, this may not be your first choice.

I would definitely return and recommend this 'like-new' gem in the Country Inn and Suites collection. I would also enjoy exploring the area for an entire weekend.
