“Clean Room But Section 8 Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

The rooms were clean but it was a section 8 hotel. We stayed one night and in the morning the manager in the Perkins next door, told us that someone got shot in the hotel that night. When the car service picked us up he asked us if we heard about the shooting. It was very disturbing news. I do not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: My room on the ground floor was fine.

I apologize that you may have been subject to some local media hype surrounding the circumstances of any criminal activity that may have occurred in the hotel's vicinity during your stay. The fact of the matter is that there was not a shooting in the hotel, but an incident occurred near the hotel that involved a guest of a function at the hotel and the hotel staff has done all that they could to assist the local authorities in their investigation. It's unfortunate that some of the details regarding the situation were not known by the individuals who provided you with partial information.

The hotel has surveillance systems in place and have planned some staff training that will better equip my team to continue to provide a safe environment for all of our guests.

Sincerely,
Lisa Wolgamuth

“I need a Tetanus Shot.”

This place is aweful. I cannot believe that the health department keeps it open. A homeless shelter would have been better. My first night had the room flood from outside rains and a leaking air conditioner. Tub leaked and toilet did not flush. Walls were thin and my family heard everyone around us. We requested new room. we were told to check the bed linens as "The housekeepers are lazy and don'y always claen well." The second room air conditioner worked partially. I felt like I was going thru manopause. One minute cold and the next sweating. The place was like a low income slum, which was not what I have come to expect from HoJo. I felt like it should be called HoBo.

I am very sorry for the poor performance we delivered during your stay last month. The hotel in going through a transition period with staffing and renovations, no excuse for your experience, just an explanation that we know we have some work ahead of us. Since your stay, we have begun to make changes in the housekeeping department, along with a number of changes to the grounds and guest rooms. We are striving to become a stronger property for the brand we represent. Again, I apologize for the shortcomings you and your family experienced.

Respectfully,
Lisa Wolgamuth

“Thought I was Going to Die that Night”

There were some really shady people there and it looked as if they were living there. Only later on did I find out that it was a welfare hotel and that these people were drug addicts and ex-felons (quite possibly current felons). There was some kind of fight going on in one of the rooms near me and I felt scared for my life. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had.

“Solidifies my reason for moving out of Middletown, NY!.”

Stayed here for 2 nights because it was convenient for what I was in town for. I lived in Middletown for almost 10yrs so was aware of the riff raff that goes on at this hotel (motel). When we had arrived there were 3 Wallkill police cars at the entrance doors. As we were walking to the lobby door we saw an empty glass liquor bottle in a paperback on the ground. When we walked in we were greeted by the front desk clerk who was very friendly and nice. During the check in process there were 4 cops in the lobby talking to a man that was sitting down in a chair. I took my key and proceeded to the 2nd floor. The room was freezing when we walked in so turned the heat up to 85. The room was fairly clean besides the big burn hole in the comforter on the bed. When I went to use the safe it was locked and I was unable to get it open. I called the front desk that sent up a housekeeper supervisor, who had to come back because the safe was locked for 12minutes. She came back about 30minutes later and with the assistance of two maintenance guys she couldn’t get it open. Told her it wasn’t that deep and I was already frustrated. If you choose to make coffee in the room invest in some creamer and bring your own hair dryer. Staying here was a comedy show for me as I knew what to expect and it just solidifies my reason for moving out of Middletown, NY!.

“Overall, very nice for the money.”

The beds could be more comfortable, but it really wasn't too bad. The location is nice, right off of a main road with a lot of stores. They lock the door at night and buzz you in.
