“Good Value Hotel & Lovely Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We got married in the Preskil Beach Resort in September 2010 (sorry for the late review) and stayed for 10 nights.

Welcomed arrival with a fruit cocktail and cold face cloth. We booked a standard room but were upgraded to a Honeymoon Suite on arrival. Our room as nicely decorated and clean. Certainly no complaints but nothing to blow you away.

We loved the location of the hotel, set on a private peninsula with it's own beach. The sand wasn't as soft as we would like but was fine. The sea was really clear and we spent quite a bit of time snorkeling and were able to see a variety of fish. You did need to wear rubber shoes as it was pretty rocky under the water (we bought them from the supermarket downtown).

The buffet had a good range of food available and lots of deserts. Breakfast in the main buffet restaurants was also good, no complaints. We particularly likes the egg station. For lunch we liked to grab a sandwich from the bar instead of eating in the buffet again. We also ate in the a la carte restaurant which were excellent. The steak restaurant was our favorite and we tried to eat there as many times as possible. We liked that we were not limited to being able to eat in the a la carte restaurants only a few times, you could eat there every night if you want. Although you do need to book early for availability. The steaks were the best we have ever had!!

Nights were centered around the bar and small dance floor. There were some entertainment shows on and then DJ afterwards. It would have been good to have another choice to go to in the evenings as it did become a bit repetitive.

We took a taxi a couple of times to the supermarket and downtown just for a change of scenery but there really is nothing going on in Mahenbourg and we didn't really feel safe, at one point we thought we were going to get mugged and we probably would have of it wasn't for a Police Officer luckily walking onto the main street.

We organised a speedboat trip to Paradise Island from one of the sellers on the beach, which was excellent. I would definitely recommend.

Our wedding day was arranged with no problems and was a lovely day. The hotel set up an amazing bit on the beach for us to get married as I didn't like the look of the gazebo. The cake was lovely (although I didn't see it again after we cut it, maybe it was on the buffet that night :) ) They also arranged for a private dinner n the gazebo which was great. We booked our own Photographer as the one in the hotel looked a bit tacky.

I visited the spa for a massage and to get my hair done which was of a good standard. I would recommend treating yourself.

The service throughout the hotel was high and nothing was too much bother.

We upgraded to all inclusive when we booked which did add quite a bit onto our holiday but it was definitely worth it. I would certainly recommend if you don't want to worry about costs. A bottle of house wine costs £30 and dinner in the steakhouse was around £130, over the course of 10 nights it would soon add up.

I thought the hotel was good value for money, for what we paid for a 4 star all inclusive we would pay a lot more in many of the other hotels in Mauritius. However if it's luxury you are after, I would pay extra and go to another 4 or 5 star on the island. I would stay here again if we returned to Mauritius but we prefer holidays not so confined to the hotel.

“Jewell in the crown of the Indian Ocean! NOT”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Sold to us by Kouni as a 14 night luxury holiday in paradise with all of the bells and whistles one would expext of a five thousand pound holiday
The bells didnt ring and the whistle lost its pea
Flight from Gatwick with British Airways, collected from airport by Sumertimes, tranferred to resort, no problem very good service
Greeted at resort by freindly staff, sat through induction with usual complimentary cocktail, informative staff went through all of the do's and dont's although english does seem to be a language barrier for some of them
Shown to our room at the far end of the complex with the door facing the Lagoon and patio doors overlooking the gardens to the beach
After 12 hours flight plus transfer all you want is a shower ! I have previously travelled to the Indian ocean twice before so I fully appreciate its a tropical island and bugs are a problem, so i sprayed the line of whatever the insects were that was crawling up the inside of the shower to the window, what I didnt expect is to still be looking at the dead carcasses two weeks later
Dress code for the restaurant clearly posted in reception at the entrance might as well not be there, a regular occurance for 20 stone men who's beer guts cost more to maintain than my holiday, to walk through in dripping wet speedos and a towel draped over one shoulder, not what you want to see whilst eating lunch
Although topless sunbathing is strictly forbidden its ok if you are over sixty and french
The pool area is noisey with the usual hum of loud chatter
THE BEACH that is not a beach at all ! looks good in all the brochures and on the web pages in fact its granulated coral with bits of volcanic rock for good measure damned imposible to walk on if you havent got leather feet
Go to the quiet far end of the beach with sun lounger's that have seen more traffic than liverpool street station, beach hawkers that are constantly trying sell you strings of plastic beads as coral and boat trips to the surrounding islands and in thier infinate wisdom some one thought it might be a good idea to put the volley ball court in the middle of the quiet end
People dont seem to realise that you cant take young children to an island that is a constant thirty degrees with no beach and nothing to do but look at the sea and not have them yelling for hours on end because they are bored and hot
The evening meals in the two grills where exceptional the buffet had a good selection although invariably luke warm
Cocktails on the rear terrace after dinner was an experiance as the cockroaches seem to like the hours of darkness
If you are lucky enough to get a room at the quiet lagoon end dont rejoice too quick because when it rains your not going to believe smell that arises from this area
Watch your bill constantly ! although all inclusive we were charged £6 a cocktail for drinks mixed with island alchohol because they were not on thier cocktail list
Over all for us this was not a good experiance as I was looking for a special holiday for my wife's 50th birthday, all holidays are subjective as everyone looks for some thing differant IF you are looking for quiet luxury this is certainly NOT the place to go and you can do a lot better for your hard earned cash
In my opinion a tired resort in need of a major overhaul whose staff need to re-think thier approach to customer service, i fail to see how it keeps 4 stars

“Unpleasant service”

We went there for 1 night in a group of 12 and were very disappointed with their service at the reception, bcoz we are Mauritius i presume......firstly, we were asked to pay before checking in as if we were thieves! this is the first time in our lives that we had to pay before check-in!! Incredible but true... otherwise, everything went on well except that the beach boys were a bit lazy, had no manners and not helpful at all.... hamam, food and swimming pool very nice. they should change their old metal chairs in the balcony as we kept hurting ourselves by bumping into them each time!

The BEST part was when we checked out..Oh GOD..... we were asked to pay once again as they did not have any record of payment effected, RIDICULOUS, bcoz as per their policy we had to pay before check-in so how come they say that we did not pay...... added to that the receptionist (Yogishta) was quite unpleasant with no smile, i sincerely think she should go for a training on customer care, in regards for the waiters, they provided a nice service..

well guys, i would rather advise u to think well before you choose this hotel. best choice is Veranda, Grand Baie or Pointes aux Biches. such a nice place with really gooood service and staffs.

Regards,
TMPTSS

“Star fish Bay”

After a very busy year, our family wanted a beach holiday where we could relax ON the beach rather than lie around the pool worrying if our choice of swimsuit was trendy enough. We also wanted a holiday away from too many loud fellow tourists. Le Preskil was just what we needed. We have stayed the two previous years at Le Cannonier in the North and found the staff very snooty and anti South African tourists. Le Preskil has two swimming pools, one a 2m deep pool but the beach is just so condusive to swimming and snorkeling that there is no need to use the swimming pools - the whole idea of having an island holiday is afterall to be IN the sea.
The majority of guests were French or German and a few quiete South Africans. The Hotel staff are surprisingly accommodating and genuinely friendly. Yes, the rooms could do with a refurb but we spent very little time in them and the constant offer of fresh towels and turn downs outweights this. Recommend a trip on the 10:00 glass bottom boat to Blue Bay (small fee but well worth it to support this marine reserve) . Amazing box fish; parrot fish; zebra fish...and beautiful coral. Big thumbs up to Coral Divers based on the beach, my 8 year old daughter did a "Bubble Maker" scuba course and learnt to dive with a very relaxed competent and safe diving instructor. I did an 8m dive close to the hotel, lots to see. Also recommend Cat Cruises Catamaran sunset cruise. Beach has 3 bays, one good for swimming with sandy bottom (wear coral shoes/ fins : - luckily I had these on as got zapped by electric ray!). One is filled with starfish and the other is where the powerboats tie up. Snorkelling just beyond jetty also very good.
Local supermarket nearby for baguettes and snacks if you are not going all inclusive. Area is still unspoilt by touristy shops and commercialism. Mahebourgh market not worth a visit: - mostly chinese imported merchandise. Surprisingly littel aircraft noise or view although so close to airport, unlike Shandrani.
This hotel is not for you if you like dressing up and partying!

Room Tip: Away from Tapas restaurant and dance floor. Interleading rooms are ground floor only. Honeymoon ro...

“An amazing honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We had a truely amazing honeymoon, we went for 12 nights and stayed in a cottage overlookng lion mountain, breathtaking views. Considering it is only 15 minutes from the airport which we were worried about you didn't hear a thing. We went in August 2010 and experienced some bad weather - some rain and wind but it didn't spoil our honeymoon at all.
We played tennis (free) quite a lot and volleyball with the entertainments staff who were so friendly. Watersports are free which is great value as well as glass bottom boat out to house reef which is worth a trip. We loved the blue bay boat trip with great snorkelling. Also walking with lions with excellent and also went swimming with dolphins - my husband didn't like this too much as there were a lot of boats who chased the dolphins. The food was excellent and plenty for a vegetarian and both the other two restaurants were excellent too, my husband enjoyed chakras steak a lot. Staff overheard it was my birthday one night and lights went out and a "huge" cream cake was delivered to our table with candles. We went half board and it was all worth every penny. We would love to return. Highly recommended. We hired a taxi for the day to take us all around the island - visited coloured earth, river gorge, some temples etc as well as a visit to Mahbourg market which was great. Iles Aux Augrettes is just opposite the resort with very rare pink pigeons and large tortoise. Worth a visit. Take a trip on catarmaran to Isle Aux Cerf - paradise on Earth and a really lovely trip out with bbq on boat. This was our freebie for our honeymoon gift.

Room Tip: Get a downstairs beach hut superior cottage to the left of restaurant with views over lion mountain...
